Three Preludes of Op. 1

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! This is my first real composition! I hope you like it.

I composed the three preludes during the summer, the first prelude in A Flat was composed as a waltz, and so was the second (in DFlat). So they are both in 3/4, however the last prelude, in Bb, is in a mixture of 3/4 and 4/4.

Prelude No.1-I would say this is my least favourite, it has a mainly ABA form, with a bit of a nocturne in the middle.

Prelude No.2-I thought this one sounded a bit like Satie! Especially one of his Gynopedies. :w00t:

Prelude No.3-Again, I thought this one sounded like Granados. I thought it had a bit of a Spanish flavour! :D

I hope you like them, give me all the comments you can!

Sorry about the recording quality!:sadtears:

Sorry, but it's hard to hear because of the static and your soft playing. D:

But from what I could hear, it sounded pretty :P Keep composing!

I. I liked this one, though I wished there were more variety in your choice of accompaniement patterns. It seemed like that majority of the time you had the left hand do nothing but arpeggios.

II. Yes, I can see the Satie here. My only complaint so far in listening is that it is rather sleepy. Is that what you were going for?

III. I dont really feel a spanish flair to this. Of course, when I think of Spain I think of lilting rhythms and flamenco dancers and a vibrancy that is wholly unique to that type of music.

Yep! I mostly improvise pieces, so that's why there were so many arpeggios. :)

To be honest, I wanted it to feel as if you are dreaming whilst awake! :w00t:

Yeah, it doesn't have a Spanish flair, it wasn't meant to be Spanish anyway. :P For some reason I think of Granados when I listen to it! :P

Thanks for the comments!

Oh I hate to do this.....But please look at the rest of my videos I want you comment on me as a pianist! :P

On the piano aspect, I feel you need to listen to the voices more and match their decay.

Sorry? :w00t: I don't really get what you're saying. :P

I believe on the piano, we should focus on the notes and how they sound, not how they decay! :D

I think he means, your notes are too consistent - and needs a natural decrescendo. Each note should adapt to the previous note, and play approximately the same as it decays.
