Hey-

Just something I though up while stuck in traffic. Feel free to comment.

This really does evoke imagery in my head of being stuck in traffic... well done!!!

While stuck in traffic? Haha! Nice! :) It was enjoyable to listen to.

Really nice composition, if played by a real orchestra it would work well in a movie.

Can tell you know how to make it sound like an orchestra composition wise.

Coax-Well, to make it sound like an orchestra (for strings at least) i record everything on one track, then split them into different tracks with different articulations. I don't know about the brass, I've never been able to get them to sound right though. Thanks for the feedback guys!

Awesome. This sounds like a real orchestra to me!

What samples are these?

Thanks! These are just EWQL Gold samples, all with the built-in default convolution reverb.

Hey, I think this sounds nice, though i still miss something in the piece, i just cant describe what it is... :(

I think you should add some more dynamics? Maybe try to have more silent moments (while the pizzicato strings are playing?) And then a crescendo when the brass comes in? It might also be a good choice to accelerate and slow the music down at some points.

I hope you can use some of my comments :)

Hi Jijgaat-

Do you have any suggestions on how to make dynamic contrast more realistic without sudden changes? Also, is there a quick way to accelerate and slow down the tempo without repeatedly having to type in new tempos (which is a huge pain...)?

Thanks in advance,

I like the beginning with the flute and celesta(?) I like the melody and your instrumentation as well as your transitions. They work well. I really enjoy the way the instruments work together. I got the image of flying. The only thing I would say is that the ending seemed a little to abrupt, but other than that, I liked this a lot. Great job! :)

Hey,

If you dont want sudden changes, then crescendo's and decrescendo's do a great job.

About the tempo: I dont know what programs you use. I just started to use a DAW, which can use automation. There I can tell my song for its entire duration what tempo I want it to have at each point. It sounds much more realistic if you can use these tools correctly, so if you havent got a DAW yet, get one :)

Jigaat-I'm not to sure about DAWS and what they are, is there one for logic?

I think I still dont entirely understand it either, I think its best for you to go to this topic :)

Btw I'd appreciate it, if you could listen to and comment on my pieces too :)

jdr - DAW stand for Digital Audio Workstation, and they offer far more control over your compositions. They're better than notation software for realism, and are more versatile.

They cost a whole boatload of money however, the good news is, Logic 8 Pro IS a DAW, and a damn good one at that :) Unfortunately, I haven't used Logic before (sadly I have Windows) However, you should be able to use automation for tempo changes, and the same goes for volume. On the other hand, several realism issues in your compositions can be solved by going to the piano roll, where you can make edit, albeit minor changes to volume, and so the velocity layers. As I've probably said before, making these changes add hugely to the realism factor. It can be painful, but attention to detail really pays!

Hope this helps!!
