I like the sound of your ideas. Any chance you could tell us what this is scored for? And where is the score?

Thanks.

I uploaded the score. It requires Finale 2003+, but it sounds better on Finale 2009.

Edited a bit of the soundfonts - volume, and instruments - and the ending.

Comments plz =)

Hi Sepharite!

I just listened to this and found it appealing. Your writing is very Romantic and evocative. I think it sounds like a great incidental mood setter for a film scene, though perhaps an old-fashioned one. Really tasteful orchestration too, and I loved the fact that you made use of several different instrumental colours and had a lot of horizontal and vertical interest going on. The production side of things is excellent within the confines of your tools, but I would love to hear it sequenced properly and through some nicer sound libraries.

Great work either way. Thanks for sharing and I hope you offer some comments to others as well!

I liked this quite a bit.

I can see this in a film/game of some sort most definitely.

I really enjoyed the harmonic colours you made. Especially at 0:18. A really cool and enjoyable piece.

I really enjoyed this and thank you so much for fixing the score! Very good work here! I agree with most what is said above. Hope you share more of your work with us.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm glad you guys liked it, I actually haven't really composed in maybe 2 years, excluding my improvisations so I'm a bit surprised. :P

Interesting sound, I like its tonal dissonant sound!

Check your ranges, you score way to low for cello in some places. They cannot play below a C below the staff. You might consider adding a double bass to carry those low pitches and double the cello at the octave when it's not. Adding the double bass will also add a "bottom" to the piece that might help you achieve the texture I think you're after.

Also, When composing in finale, make sure voice two (red notes) are on the bottom. That way you avoid stem crossings. Also, in measures 29-32 you might want to put a crescendo in the strings, because the flute is playing in a very high register, it will be piercingly loud, and will most likely obliterate sounds coming from the strings, and you can't very well tell a flutist to play something that high quietly.

I'm not sure what this is scored for, but there is not much development, and it ends very abruptly. I'm not sure if this was your intention, but it's just an observation.
