Riddled With Bullets

Featured Replies

A short composition for an imaginary film, probably sort of fantasy movie or something ;-)... Done with Finale 2006.

Riddled With Bullets

This is great work. I'm not sure I understand the title. When I hear "Riddled With Bullets," I think of films like The Untouchables or The Godfather trilogy and maybe some sort of Film Noire sound with the influences of Jazz and slow, mysterious lines, especially from the Alto Saxophone. I think of something from the 40's or 50's mafia movies or early detective movies.

That being said, this track definitely has that -fantasy- feel. The swells are really nice. Around the 2:00 mark there's a low brass chord change that sounds really muddy. You might want to check to make sure your pitch arrangement is spread far enough apart for those overtones not to overlap and cause that muddy sound. Now, if clusters are what you were going for, then you'll probably need to put those pitches even closer together because the sonority I'm hearing sounds like it's trying to be one thing or the other... but neither is very convincing. I'd go one way or the other with that, but that's just my suggestion. You don't have to.

Overall, I'm impressed. I look forward to hearing more of your submissions, and welcome to YC. Be sure to listen to other works on the forum and to offer your feedback on their work. You'll get more feedback on your work if you give others your feedback. Thanks for submitting your work, I enjoyed it!

Well, I can see the drama of the situation: it sounds sort of hopeless and devastated through-out the piece :( I think the atmosphere presented is very effective.

Very nice orchestration and attention to detail, as well, nice job! ;)

Thanks for sharing! And welcome to Young Composers, feel free to share any other works you've made with us! :D

Excellent orchestration!

I've listened to it many times. There isn't anything that I don't like. I honestly have nothing bad to say. Great work!

Now this is really just a very personal opinion, but for some reason I wish that there was a harp at around :25. Actually, I think there is now that I'm listening to it again, but its real faint.

Welcome to YC.

This does have some very nice moments in it. The various volumes would benefit from some tweaking and of course this could be made to sound a lot better if some work was done inside of a DAW (like Sonar, Cubase, Logic, etc). Notation programs always sound too mechanical.

Those of us here in the Games forum try to help each other out by providing feedback to each other. This will help you as a composer and will bring more attention to your own works.

Ron

Nice one... really clever development and melodic ideas... but as Ron said... use a DAW for the end product... it will sound much better and will breathe life into your works as long as you put in the time.

Hi Mat,

Pay attention to what Ron suggests in terms of producing your tracks. Musically, you've got a real winner on your hands — this is an excellent cue. Very moody and dramatic, with a clear demonstration of good writing and orchestrating. The production end of things is unconvincing though, and it really drags the effectiveness down. You've made Finale sound about as good as it can, but it's time to move on to the real world of computer audio production — sequencing in a program like the ones Ron suggested using professional sample libraries and instruments. :)

Thanks for sharing, and I hope to see more from you on here!

Thanks for sharing your opinions, I'm glad you like the composition and orchestration. I know it is quite hard to listen to those crappy Finale instruments and I'd really like to make my music sound better. But until recently I've had a very bad computer and I could have been glad using just Finale. Situation has changed now and I'm thinking of purchasing some sample library, most possibly Garritan Personal Orchestra. Hope I'll soon upload better things to play ;) .
