UPHEAVAL... just epic

Using Logic Pro 8, I've created a pretty generic and "whoah-thats-cool" type of score which could, perhaps, work well in a adventure film or video game. Obviously the style in which even the intro is composed is not something we all haven't heard before, I tried to establish a couple of themes and some contrast. Mind you, I did this all in about 8 hours, so I was a bit lazy at the time to perfect and "humanize" the score lol. enjoy! VISIT http://www.youtube.com/user/canargentinemusic for more soundtracks :D

Overall sounds really good, I think! Your instrumentation/orchestration is pretty effective and the tone feels pretty balanced in most places. I think the bass line could use a little more support sometimes, especially when you've got the other parts of the orchestra coming in over it. Maybe double the string basses/cellos with a contrabassoon or bass clarinet to give that line some more support throughout. I think the more delicate part that begins at about 1 min in is very very nice. Lastly, there's a lot of clipping happening when I listen to this. I've been testing to see if it's just my speakers, but I can't seem to get it to go away or lighten a bit, so I have to assume that it's recorded into the song. If it is just my speakers then forget I mentioned it. But if not, then watch those levels when you record.

Anyway, great job overall and hope my suggestions are helpful.

This is the first thing that I have heard from you and I am impressed. You show a good propensity for orchestrating and creating a good range of colors. Though I do agree that is still a little "generic", it is still great fun to listen to. That intro was quite nice, I must say, as well as the ending.

Yes, the rhythm is really quite generic: Dun, Dun, dundundunDUN, etc. But it is genuinely fun to listen to, and it gives an interesting, epic feel. The part at 1:30 where everything just strangely calms down is also very neat, and adds life to the piece by showing some contrast.

Generic, but not bad. Your voices are not properly mixed: they're pushing your piece over to the clipping point, as someone has mentioned. It's an extremely un-likeable thing to listen to and it makes you seem like an amateur, which you're not, so definitely fix up the mix when you get a chance so that it doesn't clip.

Writing is fine, the second part is better than the first (which just sounds like Holst's Mars via Garcia). Love the solo cello in the middle. I don't have much to say here...I prefer your work when it's characteristically yours, but this is a nice exercise. Keep working on polishing your production skills to bring them up to your writing abilities. :)
