Hi,

my name is florejan.

Live in Belgium and been a musician all my life (=30 years already).

I have been writing too since a young age, but recently had a -click- and starting writing more serious stuff. Mainly for piano.

Hope to get some feedback here.

It certainly seems a nice place to be.

And sorry for my incorrect english now and then.

Bye,

florejan._

Quick history, been writing since I was 12 or so, have a degree in general music (ugh), a degree in percussion and a degree in audio. I grew up in a Bach household and when I hit puberty I went nuts fer punk music. I was a studio player in LA fer a while, played fer some "famous" people got to do several world tours but all the time learning, sticking my ears into all things composition. From hard-bop to gamelan to Ives to Eno to Emmy Lou...I've been fortunate to work and write some stuff that got somewhere sometime. As of the past 4 years (12 actually) I've FINALLY got together a studio of my own with a big live room, a new full grand and a control room that's got all the bells and whistles in it except for things like a U47 or a fairchild or silver 1176 pre Ln. If anyone has any questions about computer/power/what can I do/which sample library is good- I've got some things to say about it that may help. This seems like a good website...can't wait to hear some stuff. Anyway, as long as people are writing, things are fine.

Welcome, Hirushan! I know English may not be your first language, but try to respect the level of discourse we strive for here with complete sentences and words the best you can!

Greetings!

I have been playing with many different styles through the years and finally I have found a sound that I really would like to share with the world. I spend many hours/day composing, playing (like a child ;-)) and making terrible noises!

The style could be called symphonic/industrial, but that is too narrow..

I have delivered music for a couple of minor movies and theatre and been playing the drums and composed music in lots of bands.. At the moment coop with producers in LA and Canada, and a electronic projekt with female front (The greatest voice!!).

I really hope to make a bit more of the music than I do now, so the daily job could be history ;-)

welcome to the forums, morch!

I am very new to the world of music. Actually, I just started playing piano one year ago.

Why am I on this site? I am a composer of necessity because of a visual impairment I can read sheet music but not fast enough to play effectively.

I stumbled on a way to improvise music using the geometric relationships of the notes on the keyboard. By this method I have created harmonious improvisations. Because of my limited musical knowledge, I would like some feedback as to the validity of my approach to music composition. :)

Welcome.

And of course it is valid! Though, I would suggest that you do learn some "musical knowledge", it can only help. This is a great place to learn, stick around.

Hi you composing peeps,

Here speaks a composing violinist... And I happen to sing in a student choir as well.

First performance of my string quartet well over a year ago. More chamermusic had followed, resulting in some nice concerts this winter.

I am composing since I got my hands on some illegal copy of Sibelius (I was about 13). Joined a little composition class when I was 17. And now, just in my twenties, I am following my first set of orchestrationlessons.

No conservatory y

Hi. I'm Jonathan, but go by Bryant. I'm fourteen (as of 4/10/09), play the horn, piano, guitar, bass, misc. percussions, baritone, and have been composing for a little over a year. I don't think I'm good at it much, but get told I am. I know that it's all just to be kind, but I need real criticism. I mainly compose for

junior-high level school bands.

Hey there! My name is Jacob, and I'm only 17 years old. I play the violin and the viola. I some playing around on the piano as well, but I can't really do anything (except scales). I can't wait to receive feedback for my compositions here.

I'm much older than most of you, but I consider myself a "young composer" because I'm new at it. I write musical theatre compositions for my original plays. I got on this site because I am purchasing either Finale or Sibelius and wanted to read comparisons.

Since I already use Finale 2003 I think I'll stick with it as I already have endured the learning curve. Also, playback is important and I hated the Sibelius (demo) playback piano sound.

This site seems like the place for me to ask composing questions. I look forward to interacting with some of you.

Hello, I'm Sebastian. I came from Chile, and I play electric and classical guitar (my main instrument), as well as piano, flute, double-bass, electric bass, and ethnic percussion/string intruments.

I started composing last year and my musical styles of genres are mostly progressive rock, jazz, and now "symphonic" (bad-called classical) music. I like a lot the romantic music so if you listen sometime to one of my works you're oging to find a lot of this influences, because I like all the composers of that time. I try to mix this elements for example romantic rythmic themes but with ethnic melodies or progressive rock harmony, just to say so. So I'm always trying something new, and I'm really glad of being here where I can share and discusse my/other's people music.

Hope to talk some time!

Sebastian

Hey,

I've been lurking around this site for about a week now, figure I should introduce myself. I'm a 19 year old Canadian (originally from Ottawa) studying double-bass at the Schulich School of Music (faculty of music, McGill University in Montreal). I've been playing double-bass for 6 years, and am also "proficient" as a percussionist, accordionist, guitarist and electric bassist.

I've always been fascinated by composition and am constantly plagued by original music running through my brain but only recently have I given any effort into writing it all down...apparently it's a lot harder than I thought.

I've already uploaded a string quintet in the chamber music section ("Vermont String Quintet"), and would love to get some feedback, so if you have a few minutes (and a copy of Sibelius) please give it a listen. I'm most heavily influenced by 20th and 21st century aesthetic-romantics, like Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Jean Sibelius, Eric Whitacre and Sam Barber as well as the classical-romantic transition writers such as Brahms, Beethoven and Bruckner.

Cheers,

Joshua

p.s. any other Canadians?

Hey, i just joined today, i thought i would introduce myself.

you can call me mastri, but BfM is fine, too.:)

i mostly compose strings pieces and i'm trying to compose some Canons. It's hard.:O

I joined because i wanted to make my music known. I'm glad to be here, and hope that i'll have a good time!

Hello! I am a new member from Indonesia. I started to learn composing for about 4 months ago, and I can play piano a bit. I also enjoy video game soundtracks. I hope I can develop my own video game and compose its soundtracks :D

Nice to meet you all!

Hello all! I

Welcome slowflow, Lana42, and Bb Major!

Hello all, my name is Desmond. You can call me any variation of my actuall name, or call me any variation of my user name, doesn't matter either way. I mainly am into composing music for stage, but I have done a bit of everything, I'd suppose. I am 23, and up until this past Fall, I was a double-major in Music Ed. and Composition, so we were required to write a wide variety of pieces. Music theater is my strong suit. Really excited to have some critiques on my work. Especially looking for some librettists, and or playwrights to collaborate with on writing musicals. Hope to talk to folks soon, and glad to be here.

Hi

My name is Esben. I live in Copenhagen, Denmark.

I am a trumpetplayer, who likes to compose. I use a piano and Sibelius/GPO for that.
