Hey I'm nate, I live in Virginia, have been playing piano for 6 years, and guitar for 1 year.

I have been composing since I started playing piano, but only serriously strating from two years ago, and only writing multiple part peices starting about one year ago.

I enjoy alternitive rock, light rock with some folk influences (and lots of strings!), classicail music, and a tiny bit of blues and metal.

Hello, my name is John.

I'm young, 16, so fit well into this sites demographic. I've been exposed to music my entire life, including in the womb due to my Mother participating in a large scale sound and music repose test on babies. The tests involve them playing different genres of music to the child in the womb, measure brain activity and movement and again as they grow. According to the tests, I cried when they played the music again when I was older but not to any other music or sounds ..spooky.

The earliest piece of music I have that I "composed" was when I was just learning how to use taping sticks and write quavers ect in music class in year 1. Although It's just a rhythm I still love knowing I have, it safe and I'm quite surprised at how quickly I picked up the concept of writing music only just learnt how to write my name.

Seeing a keen musical interest my parents got me involved in the Trumpet in year 5, drums in year 7, guitar in year 8 and Piano in year 11. All I picked up reasonably fast and even managed to learn movement 1 of Beethoven's Mondschein within 6 months of piano lessons and take out our towns solo competition with a Brahms Waltz later the same year.

My inspiration comes from an extremely wide spectrum of genres. The main influences however would be Beethoven, Chopin, Opeth, The Beatles, Metallica and Bela Bartok.

In terms of Composing, I've got 6 years of ideas written for guitar, rock bands, "strings" and even a crazy mixture in guitar pro files and tonnes of scrap manuscript papers. Out of all these years only one piece I've had the guts to "publish" mainly because I was able to put a friends name on it by getting him to help me with the instrumentation. The reason why I would struggle to give my work to other people is that I tend to suffer from enormous self doubt when It comes to music, which of course I'm working on.

As soon as I get the hang of working Sibelius it should only be a matter of time before my work is up at the chopping block. :sadtears:

I hope that this community at young composers is what I'm looking for in a cesspool of musical friends and inspiration. Look forward to it lads

hi, I'm frankie. I'm 14, live in England... I play violin in various orchestras, also piano, and I've had some of my compositions performed. I love classical music! I want to be an academic type musician when I'm older, and play in a good orchestra! atm i study at tge junior royal academy of music in london, was principal 2nd violin in the national childrens orch, etc. In my spare time, I listen, analyse and learn as much as possible about composers, pieces etc. At the moment I'm particularly into Mahler (symphonies 2,5,6,8,9, all the song cycles, das klagende lied are my faves!), Vaughan Williams (symphonies 1,2,6,7,9 and Job, 5 variants on dives and Lazarus), Wagner (overtures to Meistersinger,

tannhauser, prelude to acts 1&3 of Lohengrin, prelude and liebestod to Tristan and Isolde). I find classical music much more thrilling and intense than pop, rock etc.

ps I'm not sure if I posted this in the right place...? :)

Welcome to :yc:

Frankie - yes, this is the right place.

Hi, I'm Allion! I play violin in Florida, and I'm fourteen. I'm currently in 11th grade, and I'm working towards getting into the composition department at Peabody Conservatory after I graduate. I'm currently obsessed with anything written by Gustav Mahler (particularly #5 and #3). I've been playing for about six years, and I've won a couple regional and state competitions. I started composing a couple of months ago, and I've written three solo violin pieces, a duet for flute and violin, and some sort of fugue imitation. I'm currently attempting to teach myself music theory, so hi!

*I'm somewhat ecstatic that I sound exactly like Frankie above... :-)

Hello! I'm Ryan from Minnesota. I'm a 14 year-old in high school and I've been wanting to find a place to learn about composing. I play piano and cello primarily and picked up composition about three years ago. Going to jump in with both feet and I hope to learn a lot!

Oh. No.

Eitherway, welcome to the forums.

Hello, I'm Christian, 17, from Austria. I've been playing Euphonium for about 10 years now and won several soloist competitions in Austria on this instrument. About 2 years ago I started playing the piano. I'm interested in composing since I knew how to write notes, but never learned much about it. A half year ago I said myself "I want to go into composing!"

I'm looking forward to gain experience and to learn a lot.

Hi, i'm Matt, i'm 18, and i'm from the UK and music is a big part of my life.

I've played various instruments, though in recent years played them less frequently due to a more directed interest in composing. I've been composing since January 08, my work varies, but the truth is that i've not actually completed much, i have many ideas but struggle to develop them and build it into an entire piece. I am very picky when it comes to my ideas and if i'm ever doing something i much rather it be done properly than a half arse effort.

The dream is to become a film composer, but i'm currently lined up to do a music production degree, so composing is more of a hobby until i can develop my abilities to a level which i feel confident with.

My current focus areas are composition in general as a basis, harmony, counterpoint and orchestration. These topics are going to take some time and some intensive study to get through but combined with practice should give me the skill set i need to create some good music, well thats the hope.

Bit of a long intro i know, but there you go. See you around the forum.

Hey everybody. My name is Eric and I'm new here and relatively new to composing, though I've always wanted to make the switch. Formerly a game programmer, just wasn't artistic enough for me I guess.

Mahler is incredible. I love his counterpoint in Symphony No. 9.

Wrong thread, perhaps? :hmmm:

I think he was referring to me comment.

In that case:

Poor use of the "quote" function? :hmmm:

True, but he is new. Although that has never hindered me from annoying people :whistling:

Hello Everybody ! I'm Tianayh, aka MOTA, aka Danielle Raharivola, a girl pianist composer singer coming from Madagascar. My name is Jimi, and I'm an alcoholic.

Er... I mean I'm a musician. My first instrument was the bass guitar, which I've been playing for six years, then guitar (five years), drums (three years), piano (one and a half years), harmonica (just started), and I have an old violin that I'd like to fix up.

I've been writing since I started playing, but only recently have I decided to learn to read and write music in standard notation. As such, I don't have a clue what most of you guys are saying most of the time! I'm going to be studying composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music... in about a year and a half, which is how long I think it'll take me to get a decent grasp of theory.

I'm nineteen years old.

hey everyone my name is Jayden and I'm an all around music lover:)

Hiya! :D

My name's Scott.

I'm a junior/senior(depending on who you ask) in college and I'm double majoring in Psychology and Religion. I plan to go to get(at least) a masters in Clinical Psychology and become a therapist one day.

I've played the tenor saxophone for about 10 years now and bass clarinet for 7 or so. Oddly enough, I've never played alto sax or Bb clarinet...I jumped straight to the other two.

I kinda just mess around on my music program for fun as a hobby. All of my stuff is pretty simple but it gets more complex as I learn what I like to write. I am a half-decent arranger and have done some stuff for saxophone ensemble.

I think that covers it...
