Miniature No 15: Waltz

This is far from my greatest work, but I spent about 1 hour tidying this up after I played it while accompanying a grade 4 ballet class. At its heart it is an improvisation that I chose to notate. I will no doubt expand on the ideas at some point.This marks for me the end of my current compositional style. I intend to spend the next year transcribing and editing my current compositions, while continuing to write the commissions I receive. I look to more contemporary sounds and styles, but with the techniques and traits that make my compositions my own.

Wow I think you are being way to modest. I think this is a beautiful waltz. I have only been playing chopin waltzes for the past few years - because I love them so much - and I definitely agree this is very chopin-eske. You should be so proud of this piece. I just started to compose my own music....how long will it take for me to write like this? And where did you find your inspiration? I'm having a hard time just writing out a simple theme.

learn from the masters, starts small. Give your self 8-16 bars to write somthing, and then spend more than 1 week on it. then once you have a sound that you like, expand on it...

This is just adorable! Reminds me of watching a Charlie Chaplin movie! :D That must be one happy little notebook!

Amazing how you consider this one of your "lesser" works, and it's still very above average stuff.

Nice classical waltz style. Obviously there are plenty of opportunities to expand upon your ideas, vary the harmonies, etc. and we know from your other works that you are capable of that. I think it is ok for you to pull back a little bit and write something less ambitious but still nice at times.
