String Quartet #3

dissonant sometimes

String Quartet #3

this is real orchestra right???

i would say, interest wise, the runs (16 triplets) starting from 3:55 and staying there until 4:30 is abit repetetive, but it all depends on the context. what is this music used for? art or commercial?

Hi, welocme to YC. This sounds really interesting. I love the harmonic language you use. somehow grounded to tonality.

I would like to read along with a score (in PDF), as is good custom here. Can you tell something more about the piece?

very good. it shows you know your instruments. the pizz comes justv at the right time I feel structurally to add punctuation. the agitated section I really like. Very well arranged although a little more melodic interest in the higher register might be nice. Also it appears most of the time, all four instruments are present - maybe a little resting from some could be effective. very well paced though. organic and the dissonance is very natural. :)

Welcome to the forum! Please keep posting works and comment on the works of others. In the future, it is very helpful to post your score so that reviewers can comment on the construction and neatness of the writing in addition to the sound. I really think this is quite good writing in this piece. The first or half seemed a little bit boring to me, but I found some of the more dissonant repetitive grooves with the pizz parts (in the vlns I believe) to be very catchy and nice.

I agree with Jaime. You have really great ideas (I like especially like the groove from 4:08 on), but it would be nice to hear you break up the ensemble instead of so often having everyone play at once.

Welcome to Young Composers, PapaBlister! (Odd name...)

I agree with Jaime: that pizz. at just under a minute comes at a very good time, and it fits very well throughout the rest of the piece.

About about 2:00, I like the violin's dissonance that you put in there, nice job with that! It's not tuneless, it just adds another layer to a piece, and it gives it more interest.

And 3:10-3:50 was very interesting!

I don't really have any criticism for the piece, it all seems well put together, and I never found it boring or repetitive, personally. The only thing I would say is that it ends in a rather jarring fashion (although you may have done that on purpose), but that's not a big deal, either way.

Thanks for sharing! :D

Thanks for the feeback guys, I really appreciate it and it is why i joined YC. I mostly write for film and this was just for me to write. I'm working on the score right now but usually I don't write out my music, I just play it. Do most people write out their music first?

J, this is all EWQLG.

All i can really say about the piece is that its structure comes together as I go. and in retrospect, I'd agree that the 4 instruments are all playing at once too often.
