Ballade (No. 1)

Featured Replies

A Ballade in B flat Minor with quite a few themes.

Ballade (No. 1)

Hey man,

Thanks for posting this piece, overall I think it's a pretty good work.

The main thing I'm going to say is clean up the score. We can't even read the notes for the vast majority of the piece. Something's up with the dynamic markings - it looks like your pc has replaced note heads with forte signs (or perhaps it's just my pc D:).

I quite like the themes you've used. They definitely add a distinctive character to the piece. But I think it could benefit from a little more variety or a removal of some of the theme occurrences.

At some points I noticed that you had a pedal marking running across a large harmonic/chord change. It created for a while an unpleasant mix, I don't think it's intentional but so just be aware of it.

Perhaps add some dynamic changes in there and a bit more contrast in texture. I know it's midi or whatever so it's naturally not going to sound the best, but I think it could definitely help.

Anyway they're a few things I noticed that you may or may not wish to take on.

Cheers again for uploading - I hope you do the same for some of your other pieces :phones:

Thanks :)

Yeah, I was too lazy to put in proper pedal markings haha, I'll also work on the dynamics more.

But thank you so much for the feedback! I'll be sure to upload more in a few minutes. :D

No problem man. Eagerly awaiting your music

My version of Adobe won't allow me to see the score  Says something about it not being compatible with "maestro" font. Curses!

What you have here is very enjoyable: rhythmically interesting (it reminds me of something Arabic [?] at first, then goes on to become more classical, then back), and the dissonance at parts is very well executed. It gives the feeling of sort of phasing out of a grounded, structured piece into another dimension of hypnotic, floaty suggestion...very interesting. I would love to hear a live performing of this: it's already quite articulate, but the midi is so dry :(

Thanks for sharing, this was very enjoyable!

Welcome to Young Composers, I hope you enjoy the site: feel free to add your thoughts to others' pieces on the site, I'm sure they'd appreciate it :D
