Sonata for Two Violins in G minor - Third movement

The third movement to the double violin sonata. I wrote this much, much later than the first movement (and it probably shows). I hope to get around to do a second, slow movement some day.

I definitely prefer this movement over the first.

Much more variety of themes and especially in the rhythms.

I liked the ending and think it works well for the two movements.. I look forward to hearing the second movement :phones:

oh i like the way they intermingle - it also has a lot of counterpoint in a way that is very well thought out. i like this

(As far as I know) The violin is unable to drop lower than middle C, so The finishing chords (and some parts of the melody) are rendered incapable of being played.

Nevermind, scratch that. They can hit a G =P

I used to play the violin so if there were any notes out of range, I'd be pretty embarrassed :facepalm:

I also like this better then first movement, it's more interesting melodically, has more variation. This is a very nice composition! Thanks for comments on Spring Awakes.

As everyone else has said...I took one glance at the score, and knew I was going to like this even more than the first one!

You wisely (in my opinion) get rid of the repeats that you had in the fist movement, and you really kick in the counterpoint in this one. A change in "color" like I suggested in the first one would have been nice, but you really make up for not doing that by making a basically-perfect Baroque-style violin duet.

Fine, but there are passages a little strange. The final cadence of the first part (repetition) is inconsistent with the entry of repitición to be a baroque style. I find it very good it is a work in good progress and directionality. Buenos rhythms. The second part I see it more elaborate. What you should have in mind is that this type of work for two melodic instruments are supported with acute low, because even though the violin has good bass, bass remains low. Against more harmonic music best mix, and this requires a good bass. (In bass clef) The Baroque sonatas with two sharp instruments are a good low and continuous.

You could use this implementation:

violin 1

Violin 2

Harpsichord or lute or theorbo,

Cello, bassoon, bass ....

The violins are the main voice and the rest are harmonic and contrapuntal support.

As a counterpoint to two voices this work is good.

Thanks for the listen, sorry for the late reply. I actually have toyed with adding a string orchestra and a harpsichord accompaniment to make it a concerto. I'll probably revisit that after I finish the second movement which is in progress.

nice 3rd movement. There are nice elements and to be sincere, I am not a huge fan of baroque music, but this is pleasant to listen to. I noticed that even in this one, yes I know it's a sonata, but your theme does come back a few times. Nothing wrong there though ^^

is the second movement coming along? are you planning to do a 4th mvt.?

Nice piece, but a even greater theme! Very vivaldi! You lack some knowlage about baroque technique, but this melody has a great potential! I wrote a little piece based on your theme, nothing serious but it gives you the picture of the theme in a more baroque musical language.
