March 31, 201016 yr Really not sure where Im going with this. I have huge writers block. Should I start it out differently, and if so, what? Where should I go with it? Any help, and I mean, any help would be appreciated! Meh
April 1, 201016 yr Well..it sounds good so far..Why do you feel stuck? It sounds like you have something in mind..you just started a drum beat. The ideas move quite quickly from one to another before they develop very much. It sounds to me like you are setting up something energetic with that drum beat...I find that it is best to just write something, anything, when you have a writers block..I just finished my string trio for the march competition, but wrote 3 different first movements for it (not complete and rather quickly) before settling on one. Just write and you will find what you like. Now..some questions that may help you: What is this piece for? Is this soundtrack type music? It sounds like it... Are you notating or just looking for good sound? Live performance in the goals list for the piece or no? What are you writing about/for? Sax Contest Ear Training Class 2

April 1, 201016 yr As benxiwf said, the drum beat seems to be setting up for something big. I'm thinking you loop those last few measures (from :30 onward) once and have a big five eighth note crescendo of snare and bass drum and, of course, a big crash on the downbeat of the next measure. You should then build on that horn theme, possibly making much more fanfare-like. I'm just throwing ideas out there. What you have sounds good so far.
