Sonata in E minor for Violin and Piano - First Movement

Featured Replies

The only completed movement for a planned three movement sonata for Violin and Piano that I started quite awhile ago.

Sonata in E minor for Violin and Piano - First Movement

Good job, BKHO! Awesome piano and violin sound. But why you use so many reverb? But anyways I really like it!

Nice work, the piano and violin accompany each other wonderfully!

--I like the thorough development throughout, and its tone: it sounds sort of stuck between an emotional feel, with the violin's minor "musings", and an intellectual feel, with its crazy scale climbing and such. Very refined, and distant sounding, to me.

--Even though there is nice development, this piece by itself has such a flat texture, that it really needs the accompaniment of it's fellow movements to bring out the full life that you first intended.

Thanks for sharing, this is good work :)

Thanks for listening! I definitely tried to keep the piano and violin parts on equal footing and used Brahms' violin sonatas as a source of inspiration.

Gosh - there is some really interesting stuff here. The opening definitely grabbed me (although I though the texture was more Mendelssohn than Brahms - hope you don't find that insulting!) and the interesting fugal kind of development in the middle where the harmonies get a bit whackier. There are a couple of passages that seem to end a bit too "conveniently" somehow (I can't find a score, but an example on the sound clip is 0.22-0.23 seconds in, and there are a few other similar instances). Overall, though, really enjoyed it and I shall certainly listen to more of your stuff! (Oh, and thanks for your comment on mine!)

Thanks for listening. There are worse things than being compared to Mendelssohn ;) . I also look forward to hearing more your music.
