Æther (Prelude)

Featured Replies

Introduction piece which leads into a song. Not really a chamber piece, but it was difficult to find the right category for it.Based around an 8-bar piano motif which is repeated throughout. With each repeat, the piece becomes more layered and dissonant, before allowing the solo piano to finish the peice off.

Æther (Prelude)

Fantastic work, Defectnoise! :D

...

I'm sorry, but I genuinely don't know what else to say :dunno: I'm not usually at a loss for words, but this piece just sort of...is. Which I think is exactly what you were going for: it's all very abstract and I really can't pin anything down. There's this ethereal, unknowable quality about the piece that gives it such a mysterious, strong air: very artfully done, sir!

(I happen to have Sibelius, but a lot of people don't, so try uploading a PDF score instead of a Sib file! Try PDFCreator or something like that. Pieces with easily accessible scores tend to get more attention!)

Thanks for sharing, and welcome to Young Composers! :) I hope you enjoy others' pieces on the site. Feel free to offer any thoughts you have on someone else's work, I'm sure they will appreciate it very much.

To me it sounded like a popsong with some weird harmonies. The last is very good (i.e. the weird=good), but the overall progressions sounded a bit too cheesy to me (I VI IV Np V I)

Overall I like this, but you only repeat this, and then its finished. Together with the poppy way th piano plays its chords just doesnt feel like a chamber music piece. Maybe it isn't meant as such?

but again. I love the distorted chords :)

this works well - it is interesting harmonically and etheric like debussy or ravel - those u say music like this is from the Ether. instrumentation is very nice. the snare got m by surprise in a good way! Keep up the good work

Cool, just plain cool...

I wish I could see the score though.

The dissonant chords are really cool. I like the piano intro then the flute and cello coming in

Nice work!

Thanks for all the comments!

@jrcramer: It isn't meant to really be a chamber work, it's just that I couldn't really find a better way of describing the instrumentation. It is meant to be a more popsong like piece than a classical style.
