May 27, 200619 yr First off, I'm not a composer. I don't know a great deal of music theory. I just like to write music, even if I'm not great at it. That aside, here's a short piano piece that I wrote for someone. I'd appreciate any suggestions for improvement. MV_3.mid Oath.mid
May 27, 200619 yr Well I've got some good news for you and some bad news. The good news is, you're definately a composer and your piece here is one of the better ones I've seen on the forum recently. The bad news is that you've contracted a deadly liver disease and will probably die within the week; I'm sorry. ...Yeah ok so the bad news was a bit of a lie, but it's out of character for me to have no blatant negative comments right from the start of a reply so I figured I'd add that in to follow suit. I'll give you my comments and you can feel happy knowing that I give them knowing probably even less music theory than you :excl: As for the piece, I loved it. It was a touching melody with a great feel, sad mood and it demonstrates a good understanding of writing for piano. You do a great job with the development of your themes and it moves well with tasteful pauses. Your harmony is lovely and the chord progression itself is nice, if somewhat cliche. On the negative side, it sounds like someone died and flopped over onto the sustain pedal because it's down way too much in some parts. It needs some cleaning to avoid it all washing over into a big mess; keep that in mind for the future. Overall, excellent work here, I'm impressed. So impressed, in fact, that I decided to make a recording of it for you which you'll find a link to below. Enjoy and I hope you don't mind :excl: -Mp3 Here- Good work, keep it up! ;) Marius
May 27, 200619 yr Nice recording, Marius. I'D KICK YOUR donkey IN A PIANO DUEL Don't challenge ME, challenge GPO...*shakes head* :)
July 23, 200619 yr Hey, good stuff. Theres some reasonable modulation in this piece and its definitely a usefull start to a song of some sort. Hell I'd probably print it out and improvise on it. Wondering why u called it oath... If anything you might want to make an oath to explore the compositional soundscape in your mind a bit more...just a thought...
