my first composition

Featured Replies

Hello!

I'm a horn player (23 y.o.) from Slovenia. I'm studying horn at the secondary school for music. I was always interested in composing my own music and this year I actually started to write. I must say, that I don't know anything about counterpoint, but I have some knowledge od harmony (this is the second year I study it at school).

My first composition is a Fantasy for violin and orchestra in D, dedicated to my girlfriend, who is a violin player. It is not finished yet, it's missing the cadenza and some more music... I hope you like it. I would be really honored if you could give me some opinions how to make the piece better. Every critique is more than welcome... Thank you!

p.s.: sorry, my english is not so good... :S

Some good work here. For a first composition its marvellous really- some tasty orchestration skill, but unfortunately, I found myself being able to accurately predict where you were taking it. Just a few of the melodies and the harmonies even sounded to me to be a bit "childish" for want of a better word. Very much in Mozarts style. Found that it needed more structure- especially in the development section it seemed to become a bit "lost". Otherwise, a fantastic effort! You should be proud.

sabiansoldier, thank you for your reply... I'll try to make it a bit more interesting (especially the harmonies). I wanted the melody to be a bit childish in the part from 1:45 to 2:30... I'll work on the development section... The piece isn't finished yet - I'm planning on writing some more music, a cadenza and then a good end... ;)

Anyway, at this point every comment comes in handy... Thank you!
