Rondo for Wind Quartet

My first venture into quartet writing. Also, my first venture in the Baroque style, which usually isn't my forte. Listen and comment, if you would.

--This has a really great build-up! The gradual inclusion of the instruments was really well done.

--You also used the "scales" very wisely. There's no need to make the entire piece an exercise in scale-climbing, and you only used them to accent and add power to certain parts of the piece. Very good job :thumbsup:

--Rarely do I encounter a Baroque on this site that has a melody that really engages me. You did this! A harmony is generally only as good as the melody it's playing off of, so it's good to see the usual strength of Baroque style -- counter-point and harmony -- being fused with melodic strength. It adds more dimensions than usual.

Really, there's nothing that feels really missing from the piece to my ears, or improvement needy, so I'm just going to go ahead and give it a 10/10 and favorite it :dunno:

I don't know how you did it, but you did. You are one of the few people of the 21st century to write a cool baroque stile piece!

The melody is really nice. I like how well you managed to distribute it between the 4 instruments.

Some of the bassoon and oboe runs might be just a tad bit hard, but other than that, I don't see any major problems.

Wow! I wasn't expecting to see any more comments on this one when I checked on it, but I'm glad it's still being listened to.

Bucket: it reminds you of slapstick? I must say I was not expecting to see this in one of the comments, but it's kinda cool. I'll have to go back and listen to it with fresh ears with slapstick in mind. Hmmm...

Fin: To tell you the truth, that section took me off guard when I wrote it. I actually had just spent a large part of the day in the Oktoberfest area in Busch Gardens which my have accounted for the very German influence of my writing for the day but I really felt like it fit with the rest of the piece so I kept it it. I'm very glad to see that I wasn't mistaken in doing so.

To all: just a bit of an update. I was approached by a friend of mine to write something for his recital and so I showed him this. He liked it and it should be played in the winter as long as he can find a group to do a quartet with. Hopefully I'll be able to update this page with a live recording of that concert.

I thoroughly enjoyed this piece.

It has been very well written.

First off, I loved the build up with just the one instrument and I think you timed when the other instruments joined it perfectly. The eventual finale was great and wasn't too overpowering, as this would have spoiled the sweetness of the piece.

For a first into the baroque style of composing, this is a very cool piece that you should be proud of.
