"Hans Zimmer" Competition

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Since I really like music composed by Hans Zimmer, and because I am sure at least some of you here must like it too, I decided to start this Hans Zimmer competition.

The basic idea is to write a hans zimmer-like piece.

This can mean a lot:

-> Write very bombastic music

-> Try to rewrite a theme composed by hans

-> Keep the theme, change the harmonies

-> Change the style

-> (etc. Be creative!)

To participate I want to see a post in which you tell us you want to participate, and you have to upload an audio file with score before the deadline.

The winner will get the glory he deserves (ofcourse), but I will also make the winner a nice "signature" picture, meant to be placed in your signature (ofcourse you don't have to place it, but I guess that would be nice) to show off your hans zimmer composing skills.

For this competition I will ofcourse need a lot of people participating, so please dont hesitate and give it a try! There won't be a limit in the number of participants allowed.

I also need other judges, depending on how many people will participate the jury may need to increase in size, but for now I will accept 3 other people wanting to judge.

The deadline to submit your piece will be June the 20th, at 23.59 GMT.

I hope this competition will attract a lot of people, don't hesitate to compete.

Happy composing!

Greetz

  • Has everyone forgotten about this awesome contest? Cmon people, upload your music. It can't be worse than what I just wrote in half an hour :D EDIT: SEE PAGE 6 FOR LATEST VERSION!

You rock!

Im in!

I love hans zimmer

This is going to be epic. I'm in.

Sounds like fun. I'll join in as a competitor.

Count me in!!!

Wait a second...I have to have a score?? :( I'm out then unfortunately, sry

I'll judge.

I might give it a shot. I guess I can just take a piece from Holst's "The Planets" and rearrange a few notes. (I kid, I kid, Zimmer is one of my favorite film composers.)

I'm in. I'll cook something up in a few days. Gonna take me a bit longer to do the score tho' :)

Oooh, this sounds like fun. I'd love to join. =)

PoW

Good stuff, I'm in

hey what kind of "signature" picture will that be? sounds kinda strange ;) And you'll "make" it? :hmmm:

  • Author

Hey everyone,

Wow what a great response, I'll edit in the first post who is in, and who will judge.

@Cheeselord, you don't compose with notation software? Well you always can compete, but it will be more difficult for the judges to decide how good your piece is! But please do not refrain from competing because of the requirement of a score. If your piece sounds very good, why shouldnt you win :)

@oliebrehm: I played a computergame called age of mythology some time ago, and I made some signature-pictures there. The idea of winning "something" and to be able to show that to others is great I guess, so I think it is fun to make one for the winner here too. That signature can be anything. Here is an example:

x1aqrjkg8faf2gq6n2v.jpg

(some signature of our clan a dutch/flemish speaking clan :P)

Ofcourse I will make something more musically oriented, and it will say something that you have won this competition ;) If you don't like it, then I don't care, it is just a little extra bonus, a little extra motivation :)

Good luck with composing everyone! I will soon start making the signature and post it, I hope it will give a boost to the motivation of all of you competing!

Huh, I played Age of Mythology for years :D

Fun...

hey count me in , ill try to compose sth like the amazing Hans zimmer :)

@ Derrick: That's funny ^_^. What was your nick (or were your most known nicks :P), I was mostly on the nick I use here too :). There are still a whole bunch of Jij.... members. Together with a good friend of mine I founded this clan.

@ abd_zibdeh: cool! the more, the better :D

I assume you are talking about the real time strategy game Age of Mythology,

I didnt play online :(

  • Author

Ah ok, yes I was talking about that :) Well back to the competition, are there any people still wanting to compete, or some people wanting to judge?

so will my peice recieve negative scoring if it does not have a score?

Because I suck at scores unsure.gif

I'll help judge. :phones:

  • Author

Ok cool John, Ill add you :).

@ derrick. You can participate without having a score, though it is really recommended having one. 8 points out of 100 will be given for the score, so that is what you will lose by not submitting one.

See it as a good training !

I think I'd like to give this a try. You say it is acceptable to use a theme already written? Does the instrumentation matter?

  • Author

Hey,

Welcome to the competition!

Instrumentation doesn't matter, but considering most pieces of Hans Zimmer, I'd recommend a lot of percussion, though it is entirely up to you. Rewriting themes is indeed acceptable :)

Greetz

Could I assist with judging, or do you not need anyone else?

  • Author

Sure, You'll be the last judge for now. I think 4 judges should be enough for the amount of participants we have now :)

I would like to enter :)

Where do I submit when I'm ready?

  • Author

Hey Rick,

Cool :) Just make a post here with the files added to your post. Or upload it in a seperate post in YC. You can also upload on box or youtube or w/e and link in a post here. Just make sure you tell me here where to look :)

Good luck!
