Magnificent Desolation

Featured Replies

A track from my album "A new beginning". The name of the track is an obvious quote from Buzz Aldrin's speech on the moon which is also present in the piece. Although the influence of the piece did not came from this particular speech, it was a rather sweet coincidence.

While developing the theme of the entire album, I was gathering certain elements one of which was desolation on a far off world. At the time, I was obsessed by Europa, a moon of jupiter. The ice covered moon which most probably has oceans beneath is thought to be a good candidate for life to exist. The whole idea of the album is about this. This particular piece takes place on the surface of europa, cold, desolate and hostile. However bad as it might sound, those circumstances excited me so much and the piece attempts to evoke such a feeling.

I played the Synths and the slide guitar and Emre Yazgin (the producer) played bass and electric guitars. The synths are all from Reason.

Magnificent Desolation

If you enjoyed this track, please take a look at the other tracks of the album that I posted on this forum:

Photons in motion

Cradle for life

Everything sound really cool, excellent mix and synths, maybe the harmony could be developed more, the G#-E is very good but some alternative period would be good for the structure, but nevermind, I know this is finished.

Very good.

You are right about the harmonic diversity. At the time I wrote this song, I was beginning to simplify my harmonic language and develop other aspects of my music. Having a classical music backgroud I felt I was somehow forced to make all sorts of harmonic changes and stuff so this was kind of a new grounds for me to explore. Usually it's the other way around!

Anyway, thanks for listening.

Guitars are actually real and not samples. This is in fact from an ablum. Thanks for listenig!

Hey Nightfly!

We haven't talked in a while and something reminded me of you, so I decided I'd check out one of your pieces.

It's good! Quite good.

I like the transition into 0:26. Nice groove.

Very little about this piece evokes a lot hostile feelings but I've only heard the first two minutes. Yeah, not very hostile. I also missed that feeling of cold. I thought that would have been more prominent.

Another solid groove with the snare and bass at 2:00.

Sounds like a chills vacation spot on Europa. Like, if the ice turned to water and became a beach.

The synth playing along with the guitar around 2:51 work well together. I like how the tuning of the notes sometimes bend into each other. Very neat.

By the way, I like that pad that just sweeps over around 3:18.

And the guy saying "desolation" in time is pretty sweet.

Cool ending. Sounds like we're traveling away from Europa and it's fading into space.

Solid track, Nightfly. I hear your doing your PhD now; is that right? Good luck with it!

Peace on Earth,

-John

Thanks for listening John! Yes, we haven't spoke for some time and thats because I have been away from this site for some time. The Phd is ok, it gives me hard time but I'll survive. Thanks for your comments. Whatever this piece evokes in your mind is up to you, those were just my initial thoughts and does not necessarily should be associated with the piece.

Yeah I agree! I'd also love to hear this on an album. Great job Nightfly!
