June 22, 201015 yr I have no idea of where to put this exactly. Anyway, I got an old piece of mine and added 16-bit samples plus industrial WAV sounds painfully brought together with Tunafish (if anyone knows of a program that allows you to use custom WAV file samples as a VST plug-in for Finale, please let me know). Still, it was something I really wanted to hear done, so the effort was worth it. If anyone's interested, the original piece and its crappy samples are here. The Machine
June 22, 201015 yr Hello Berlioz! Been awhile since I've seen you. I really quite enjoyed this piece. It sounds like the evil brain-child of Nine Inch Nails and Tom Waits. The industial elements were fabul-icious. Thanks for posting! Exactly what samples did you use for this piece?
June 23, 201015 yr Author As said above, I downloaded random industrial WAV files to load as drum samples in Tunafish. I got them from freesound.org if it interests you. I recorded a separate rhythm sequence and superimposed it to the finale recording. Besides that, the electronic 16-bit samples are from VOPM, a VST program which loads sample sets from Genesis (SEGA Mega Drive) game levels. Those are from Dynamite Headdy's Sky High level. The rest is just plain old GPO samples in the background (some from the original file), just to add texture and give a glimpse of real instruments from under the electronic stuff.
June 23, 201015 yr Interesting piece, Berlioz. What are industrial WAV files? WAV files of industrial sounds? 0:34 is funny times. Can you turn the whole thing up? It's kinda quiet which is strange since it's supposed to be such an in-your-face piece. Neat sounds. I could have stood to hear the synth lead from 0:34 onwards a bit louder. I think you could go back to over your levels and make sure the melody's always clear. Obviously, that's not so important when everything's going crazy at the end, but when you do have a theme going on, it would be nice to hear it. Cool track. Peace on Earth, -John
June 23, 201015 yr That's one hell of a dramatic - almost theatric - machine you've got there. I like it
June 23, 201015 yr Author Thanks! Axon: I hear the theme fine, and I did back it up already. I can't turn it any more up because the amplification settings in Audacity have reached their limit. If I try more it'll have cuts and will sound "muddy." If anyone knows how to amplify without risking this, I'd be thankful.
June 23, 201015 yr Very fun piece! Interesting and humorous. The fifth in the beginning sounded like the sound you get when you plug a USB device in your computer only more distorted and then it's like the whole computer comes alive and goes on a killing spree. Everything is very nicely done and that siren at the end is simply epic. Great job!
June 23, 201015 yr This piece is great, though I will say some of the rhythms don't have to be random, but the theme or motive is great, its a nice sound.
June 23, 201015 yr have you heard the music of "corpse bride"?? reminds me of that really, that mysteriousness! I bet you could have this in a new big adventure movie if you could send it to a film director. And just a question, why that name?? are you related to him?
June 24, 201015 yr Author Haha! No. I just like his music a lot. jcompose: None of the rhythms are random. The WAV sounds are the ones I found on the internet, that's what I meant by random. The rhythms made with those sounds are more than organized.
June 25, 201015 yr Blarrgh Blarrgh Blarrgh Blarrgh! Loving the industrial noises! I can definitely get the since of a Time MAchine in this. Oddly enough, this bought back memories of running around Team Rocket's base in the original pokemon games. Good job! Can't wait to hear more.
June 28, 201015 yr Okay so this is a positively monstrous attack on the original, and I love it. Clever and interesting choice of sounds to augment with, and you made it all fit together. It's a chimaera, but not an unattractive one. Some excellent industrial/noise vibes mixed in with the more traditional elements. Wouldn't have minded hearing you screw with the structure and sound even more. Cut out, jitter, distort, warp tempos, etc. Not excessively, but as an intermittent effect it can be very compelling. More plz.
