Need help with Reaper

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I just downloaded Reaper, and I am trying to understand how it works and what I can do with it.

The main thing I want to do with it, is to import a MIDI file (this is what I export from sibelius) and then continue working with that in Reaper. I want to use automation, which is not possible to apply in notation software.

Now I succeeded getting a midi file imported, and I understand how to get my vst added to a track (I do this with the fx button). However, when playing the tracks, I hear nothing. I think this is because the information is not sent right to the VST. I guess I have to change something in the options, but I don't know what.

Can you help me out?

Kind regards,

Hugo

what is the vst you are using? is it set to correct channel for the midi?

Thanks for your reaction.

I use EWQL play edition. How can I set correct channels?

mm I am not sure, I am sure it would be in the settings of EQSWL or in a place where you modify each instrument. In reaper if you use the built in midi editor you can see what channels are being used, and edit the midi file with the block style notes.

personally I use GPO so I am afraid I can not be of much help

Read the manual. That's why it exists.

Sections 1.12 and 3.25-29 may be of particular interest.

the manual is 400+ pages, and I couldn't find what I was looking for, but I will soon try it again with this advice and I hope it'll work :)

Thanks guys

Hey Marius and Virtualshock and anybody else that reads this :),

I managed to get it working, I can now get my play vst on a track and get it play the track. However, I have a piece with 30 seperate instruments, and half of them is the same (so two lines for trumpets, 2 lines for horns etc).

Do I have to load every instrument for every line, or can I tell one line to use the same instruments as used in the other? If so, can you please tell me how?

Or what would even be better: Can I just use the multi's I already used in sibelius? If so how can I instruct my channels to play with the right instruments?

Thanks for your help!

you would probably have to load an instrument for each channel, though you could combine channels. not sure what you mean by the multi's in sibelius...
