Foreseeing the Future

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This is the first piece I have posted here, so bear with me on learning how this website works. :)

Written for a custom Warcraft III project, I attempted to mimic the feel of the original game's music. It serves as a short, slow paced introduction to the events to come.

It's not very long, but I hope you will enjoy it anyway.

Foreseeing the Future

First of all, welcome to the YC forums!!

Very nice indeed!! Overall, the harmonies worked pretty well, and you caught that WCIII feel with both hands.

A few little comments though. First of all, this sounds very impressive for notation, .... too good for notation. Did you use a DAW? If not, then unless you're getting it performed live, you should consider doing so. Notation, do matter how good, simply can't match DAWs in realism ;)

I feel that the starting section was the most impressive. Maybe at bar 10, f# would sound better than f natural for the appoggiatura. THe moment at 0.35 was a little unusual for a chord, however, I guess that's more down to the composer. Apart from that, it's all pretty sweet though.

What game did you compose this for BTW? Any chance of a link or something?? :D

Thanks for sharing!!

Hey Ignifex! Welcome to YC!

Cheeselord's right about your harmonies. They're lovely. Aside from WCIII it also has a bit of a Halo feel with the choirs and the slowness.

This probably goes without saying but you should double the length of this track. I'm really into it when the choirs and orchestra come in and I see it going further and further.

Btw, at the top of the Game/Film Section is a topic called Tips for Getting More Feedback. It's a handy one to read.

Take care!

Hi CheeseLord, John,

Awesome to hear you liked it. Thanks a lot! :)

I was indeed mainly focusing on some interesting progression of harmony.

I agree with you about the length of the track. It's probably better not to worry too much about the length of the scene it is written for and just let it go more.

The game will be a Warcraft III map, or multiple maps actually, made as a multiplayer (LAN) campaign. It's still in its very early stages however, so I'm afraid I don't have much more to show you than some music.

I use Fruity Loops, with a combination of its sequencer interface and an external keyboard for input, and EWQL SO Gold for the samples. Writing is done using Sibelius 6.

Regarding the f# instead of f, it's in D minor right? So it is a f#. I probably don't understand you correctly.

I'll have a deeper look around the site soon to listen to some of your music too.

Thanks again!

Regards, Ignifex
