Tragedy Approaching

Featured Replies

I wrote this over the course of about a week. I mainly experimented with various sounds (like the viola's glissandos).A friend said it sounds like something's approaching. He said it sounded like an island warned of a tsunami, and the tsunami hits. The island then holds a service to those who lost their lives. I thought it made sense, too.

Yeah it does sound like it would accompany a story. Sounds like film music. It would be cool if you could upload a score, as I cannot hear, and that would help me critique the piece better.

I think that when it repeated section exactly, with out variation--that was a little boring. Maybe if you vaired some aspects on the repeat instead of just repeating it exactly, it might be more interesting. I also would like to see more experimentation with glissandi, you actually only have a few :P. You introduced that new theme in solo oboe, I think (the midi sounds are bad), around 5:50, and it sounded like there was going to be much more but instead, you just cut to an ending. I think that you should develop that part much more, and build to the ending.

Also your sound file seems to distort when it gets real loud, but that might just be my broken headphones.

Sounds great dude, dont know how those massive glissandos (especially at the very beginning) would work in real life though,, you've a lot of instruments to coordinate with that. Some lovely colours you've got, I'd take out the music box/glockenspiel type thing youve got going, it doesnt add much to the piece and sorta draws attention from whats actually happening. Textures could be more interesting I think, eg. strings hold long, long chords for evver,, think you could use your instrumentation better, incorporate a bit of dialogue. Very dramatic towards the mid/end there. Nice. Enjoyed it. Would like to see a score though :D
