Pop-up window in Friend List chat?

Featured Replies

To Mike the Robot's successor, or in a more formal way; To Whom it May concern.

I was merely wondering if it is possible to add a pop-up window feature to the friend list chat. I happen to be using it a lot and I think those who do might actually prefer having it in a seperate window, instead of blocking segments of the page. Also is it possible to had an alert feature for a new posted message and time for each sent message?

The popup feature may be a little complex, however I will be replacing our current chat with comet chat once the test site that is currently in its testing phase is followed through. I don't see a pop up option with comet chat unfortunately, but it is a much cleaner chat.

As far as the "alert" feature, currently the box blinks within the browser. I find that this is sufficient, do you disagree? Is it working for you?

Again, we are going to overhaul the current chat system anyway, and I believe comet chat has both sound and visual notifications upon receiving messages.

Well it works perfectly fine when I am on the YC window but I tend to be on several at the same time, maybe it is only me that does so. Either way but let's say I am reading an article then I have no knowledge that someone has messaged me.

Keep up the good work.

It would be nice if we can go live with comet chat prior to launch of the site. That way more members have a chance to test it. I tested it with mike and I really like it a lot LOT better than our current chat.

I would love to go live with it now, but it will require some custom coding to integrate it with the network portion of this site. Luckily half the battle is already complete, as it comes integrated with IPB out of the box. Hopefully integration with the network will not be tough.

A warning though, I will not integrate this with the wiki.

Understandable. The wiki really doesn't need the chat. I think the wiki though is another topic entirely at this point.
