When She Died

No description as to the what and how and why of this piece? Ah well, it was a bit cheesy undoubtedly, but not anything too bad imo. The string sample had an annoying swell on every single note though. And maybe you could have added some more dynamics. I hear you did do that overall, but within the seperate elements of this short piece it could have made the piece come more to life. That way the change in the end from MF - P (or something like that) wouldn't have felt so abrupt, or artificial if you will.

hey,

this was my first upload, thats why the description is missing. my idea was a movie scene of somebody dying, sad stuff, something like that...

uhm, i uses like four different types of strings, but i guess i messed up to handle the sampler in the right way.

also, the library isnt the best you can get at all. yeah, i should have taken more care at dynamics, but its also one of my first steps in dealing with strings and so on.

thats the problem, its not sounding as authentic as it should... but i cant help it.

im gonna try to arrange something new, how about that?

Arrange something new in samples/sampler or are you actually going to arrange some song? happy.gif I guess the former. And about the things I commented on: very often not everybody agrees to what someone else said, and vice versa. So maybe somebody else didn't mind those things I highlighted to you. It doesn't make me right or wrong, but it's just something you can think about next time. I know acquiring the right library and using it to its full potential is pretty difficult, and I am not the one to help you with that (you need some of the guys who are more experienced with that). We're all here to learn, no sweat :D welcome to this forum by the way !

im going to arrange something new in a sampler  ok thats right but any kind of crit, neither good or bad, is good for me! its necessary to advance. tell me, are here guys who are experienced in that? i hope so and thanks for the nice welcoming :happy

I like the mood it sets. The short notes swell's are an issue because the note doesn't fully develop and feels a bit awkward. That is a sampling/orchestration issue. Your base idea is good but you just need to perfect it. Try to get a better sample library and sequencer(sounds like you just recorded directly from a keyboard). Once you get all that down you then work on a more complex arrangement if you wanted or keep it as is.

Apart from the bad string samples, this was a very nice piece, and for my inner cinema the scene 'When She Died' this would be playing. To Clint Mansell it all up, I would maybe add another round with either piano solo or piano/oboe playing the melody on top of the string arrangement.

The short notes I would do completely detached as a kind of baroque phrasing. The previous note ending a bit earlier. Longer notes could use some dynamic curves - I don't know if your library reacts to CC1, 7 or 11 - but a combination of those will also do very well!

I agree with roy on the swells of the samples.... not good.

But great piece, great composition!

thanks for the comments :)

ill try to fix it, but i guess i need a crash course in using kontakt... also, its programmed and not recorded by keyboard.

i also dont know how to fix the swell of the samples... maye its a bug while using long attack-times.

when im done, ill upload a new arrangement.

It's definately long attack-times. You should try playing each line in seperately and moving the mod wheel a bit.
