October 7, 201015 yr Had another account a while back, but I forgot the password. That's life, i guess. Any crits on the song would be awesome. Haven't really had any formal education in composition, so i'd appreciate it if you guys could keep the technobabble to a minimum Russian song
October 8, 201015 yr The left hand gets extremely repetitive about half way through. Also, the beginning seems to just kind of ramble around. Maybe the sound quality's the reason I don't hear it all that well. I do hear a Russian theme though 8D. Other than that, good job. I think some formal education could let you get out some really neat stuff. I hear great stuff, but it's kind of hidden by a lack of form and whatnot. The inspiration is there, but the technicalities aren't as much I'd say. Good song anyway! hones:
October 8, 201015 yr Change up the bass, give it some rhythmic intensity. Change the rhythm so it imitates the right hand, otherwise, it'll bring down the rhythmic complexity of the right. Also, there doesn't seem to be any development throughout the piece. It just stays within a small boundary (of notes), which isn't a bad thing per se, but it can definitely give the piece more range to grow. There are some bars where you transition from rhythmically syncopated beats to quarter notes. It's distracting, and halts the momentum, I wouldn't recommend that unless you're going to transition into a slower movement. Keep working at it!
October 9, 201015 yr Author I thought about the left hand being boring, but i really dont know what to change. everything i try just makes it sound like the bottom's fallen out of the piece... Also, this is probably a noob question, but what do you mean by rhythmically syncopated noted?
October 18, 201015 yr Yeah, this isn't entirely evocative of anything Russian to me. I have to agree with what Sepharite said above. Also, the ending seems a bit rushed - I wasn't quite ready for that.
