Rondo Stringquint in Es, Op.5

Featured Replies

Hello out there,

i'm new at youngcomposers.com. I started composing music about a year ago and i taught it myself all on my own.

I hope you like this piece.

Rondo Stringquint in Es, Op.5

Not a bad piece. The form isn't exactly Rondo form. Just to give you some insight on that form: the form is a sectional form comprised of sections with a repeated section or ritornello. The overall structure is usually ABACABA... You can variate it a ton of weights. This seems to me to be more ternary form than anything. The pizzicatos are nice but at one point they didn't seem to really be functional but were more ornamental. A look at a score would really help in the review of this. Renderings aren't really a good arena to review a work as many of them add interpretation to them now - which can hamper a thorough study/examination/review.

Hi Jawoodruff!

Thank you very much for the short review!

I uploaded the score, as you requested it: http://www.scribd.com/doc/39466925/Rondo-in-Es-Op-5-Score

And if you want to, you can check a score+music video @ youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et2WlsFHCvo

Hey this is pretty great! You have a nice melody, and I liked that you strayed away a bit from the overal classical harmony feeling of the rest of the piece in m55-72.

I think you did put this in a fine Rondo form. Maybe jawoodruff just couldnt make it out too well by ear, which is why he asked for the score in the first place.

I was hoping for one A-section in Es moll though, maybe somewhere in the middle. Don't know if it would work though.

I don't know whether you care, but Es is not something everyone here will be familiar with. You could consider translating the title, so Rondo in E flat major instead of Es (which should be Es Dur if I am correct). Just a thought.

Another less trivial thing: You might want to check your score again, because there are some problems with noteheads floating here and there on the page instead of being on their stick :P

I liked this, and you did a good job as far as I am concerned especially since you are learning composition by yourself (and not in a way some people here do, without having the slightest idea what they are doing laugh.gif)

This is a very cute little piece! I actually really like it.

I agree, this does sound like a rondo.

I would very much like a score, to see if you did what I think you did- which was give the melody to the first violin the whole time. Nothing against you, that's very typical of newer composers. Which is fine.

1 year with no help? Really great for that. I wasn't good after one year of composing... but then again, I was only 4 :P

Thank you very much! :) Yes, i do like this part as well due to its modulation :)

I do not undestand what you mean with in the middle? In the midle of m55-72?

Because these measures are the final climax and prepare the end.

Oh, damn! Sorry, forgot that :D:D I will take care about that in the future!

This is a problem of scribd.com. If you download the pdf you will not get these problems ;)

LOL :D:D

Again: Thank you!

But im serious about what i do, because its just my fulfillment.

This is a very cute little piece! I actually really like it.

Thanks a lot! :)

There you go: http://www.scribd.com/doc/39466925/Rondo-in-Es-Op-5-Score

:)

And you're right. The melody is played by the first violin the whole time, with 2 exceptions.

I thought about giving the melody to the viola, but unfortunately i discarded the idea as fast as i got it. Dunno why.

:D :D Thanks! Time will show. And though im 18 i just got more than enough time to spend on this.

I meant just in general: The A-section of your rondo comes back a couple of times, and I would have liked it if it was in Eb minor once. I meant one A-section in minor somewhere in the middle of the whole piece, not just in the middle of one of the A-sections.

Ah okay, i got what you mean! :) This is a good idea.
