Orchestral Battle Music

Featured Replies

Hey guys, this is basically a high energy orchestral piece for some form of intense film/video game. Battle/Chase scene is what i was going for. Let us know what you reckon of it ;-)

Orchestral Battle Music

Well, to be honest, I'd expect more out of battle music than to be driven with just strings. I mean... battle music with no brass... really??

You really took all you can get from those arpeggios, the progression is cool, but you have to have something more going on than just string arpeggios. Low trombones rumbling in the back, staccato trumpets, a blazing horn melody... battle music just has to have that. Also I'm not really sure that the hi-hat works with the rest of the orchestration, it has that distinctly modern sound that you don't really want in this kind of a piece.

On the production side, you really need more dynamics in everything, the strings, the hi-hat... thats what really poked me throughout. And the overall volume could be higher.

Anyway, the idea is nice, but this just feels unfinished to me.

sabien,

Nice piece you have here. The beginning sounds good, but you stick on the arpeggios pretty much throughout the whole piece. There's not much of a melody there, and I can barely hear any brass or woodwinds, if there is even any.

The drums could use some work. I understand you are using the high-hats for that "chase" sound, but I would vary it up a bit, as it gets redundant.

Overall, nice work!

Edit: Phantom pretty much summed it up

Hey Sabian,

I have to agree with Phantom here. This piece misses out. Try and make 30 solid seconds of music, with MANY instruments layered together. Action/battle music has to be MASSIVE. Try and add as many textures as you can. The chord progression and melody you have now isn't wrong at all, it actually feels kind of good, but I just want to hear many more instruments. I recently finished a battle music also, give it a listen if you have the time :).

Kind regards,

Hugo
