The War of Fantasia for Concert Band

Featured Replies

This is a piece I finished my senior year in high school. The recording I have of the piece was done during my stay at 2006 Brevard Music Festival. It has been performed several times and is published with the Lovebird Music (www.lovebirdmusic.com). It is also available at www.sheetmusicplus.com which I was pretty excited about since that is one of the largest retailers of sheet music. I hope that you enjoy!

There are a lot of things I like about this piece, but I really wish you had a better recording of this - it kind of distracts from trying to judge the piece instead of the players. That said, I love the theme at 2:32. I also like the Star Wars inspirations throughout (eg. 5:15). I am currently a high school senior and I definitely could not finish something of this caliber, so good job

It sounds very much like something that a high school band would play for a contest or band festival (as in, it's of that quality). Nice job!

From the intro, I was hooked. I really like the feel of the introduction. I could not get the score to open; probably just my computer. I love your variation of woodwind and brass melodies. I can definitely see this telling a story. No weak sections at all. Nice work!

Wow everyone! Thank you so much for your comments. Considering that this recording was done after only reading through it once, I thought the band did a great job. It was recorded during a composer reading at the Brevard Music Festival in Brevard, NC in the summer of 2006. These musicians were really top of the line. There is some tuning issues as you can tell, but having only went through it one time, it was incredible.

I am trying to get the word out about The War of Fantasia. I think it would market well for high school bands like you mentioned. Especially now that it is available for sale on www.sheetmusicplus.com! (I KNOW....way exciting!) If any of you have ideas for me for promotion, I would appreciate those, too. I am thinking about visiting some local high schools here in Tennessee and having myself bring the score and parts in and have them read it. I had pretty good success with that when I did it with the East Tennessee Concert Band.

So, thank you SO MUCH for looking at this! I really do appreciate the encouragement! ;)

Wow, that is pretty incredible!... forget about my earlier criticism of the musicians, then. They deserve a lot of respect. But I would still love to hear a recording of this piece by a band that has spent several hours rehearsing it.

Also, I'd agree that this could potentially be hot on the market for high schools

Awesome...thanks. I would like a professional recording done. I'd be willing to pay for one, but I have no clue where to go for that. Now, I am applying for Tanglewood Music Center...so I might try and get it performed there. I don't know...it is an older composition though.

Do you know any bands that would be interested in sight reading Fantasia? I would be willing to mail them a copy as long as they return or pay for it. I would even travel to conduct the rehearsal myself if it is within driving distance.
