Mack the Knife - Hollywood film score version

Featured Replies

"Mack the Knife", music by Kurt Weill and lyrics by Bertolt Brecht for the "Threepenny Opera", is a very popular tune that arose from the Bauhaus in the Weimar Republic during the 1928. Legendary and popular artists such as Louis Armstrong, Bobby Darin, Lotte Lenya, Ella Fitzgerald, Liberace, Michael Buble, have all done their own rendition of this tune.As a young film composer, I always try to find ways to challenge myself, so I felt that creating a traditional Hollywood orchestral film score with this popular tune as the main theme became a really exciting side project. In this particular piece the music of John Williams became the source for inspiration. I find that this piece could also be used for a video game soundtrack of sort.Composed on Logic 9 with Hollywood Strings by East-West sounds.I hope you enjoy!

Mack the Knife - Hollywood film score version

hey ! nice piece .good sound quality . actually i dont know the original song ! but from what i hear here! i think that you did a great job ! anyway i really liked it . calming and it captures your attention . the best you did is with the woodwind section , very professional orchestration i must say! . keep it up

Hi Isaias,

nice idea for practicing, the result is pretty convincing, the general vibe is there(of mack the knife)-you didn't use the cliche' transposing as ella did, which can be to your advantage if you use it in a non-cliche'd way. your orchestration is simple but effective, some dynamics would boost this performance, like build-ups for the main theme or the epic part (williams) in the end, should add greatly. i know i don't use my own advice, but i still say it...

one other thing-

2:50-2:57 brass very bad sounding on its own, after the other instruments join it's unnoticed.

might be wrong sample choice, i get that alot too. the string sounds marvelous but i think on those cannons you can squeeze some more juice.

all in all, fun and very good sounding.

This is great stuff! Sounds like a romantic venue in an RPG airship. lol. I really enjoyed the build ups, great use of percussion, everything blends really nicely. Could use some balancing with the instruments where the melody while it is prominent, does tend to be overbearing over the neat background you have supporting it. Very nice.
