Peddler's Song

Featured Replies

I don't know if this is exactly art music or film music, but I had fun composing it. The beginning of the song gives me the following image: Underneath the gray and cloudy sky, a humble peddler walks down the cobblestone street with his wares. The poor guy is down on his luck and feeling a bit down...How does the story go after that? That's for the listener to decide!Peddler's SongI would love any feedback concerning the composition. Was the climax successful in your opinion? Were any harmonies too strange in context of the piece? What do you think about the articulation use? Would you have done something different to make the climax more powerful? Anything would be fantastic!Peddler's Song

Peddler's Song

Interesting piece! :) I liked it a lot! This is the thought I got from it --

I find it interesting that you have a 1-2-pause-4 rhythm in the left hand for a good while, as your exposition for this story. It gives the feeling of this beggar dragging along his wares with some difficulty, like he has to heave-ho.

This section leading into the 8va part with the back-and-forth rhythm makes me think that he sort of is now considering his situation, thinking it all over. There's also a sense of flippancy I get from it, especially at measure 27. Then the deeper bass notes are starting to push their way in, accents on the offbeats ... it's like the flippancy is turning into outright abandon, which seems to be the Allegro Vivace at measure 43. I can't really think of a specific interpretation for this section, except that he outright breaks into dance down the street, and then immediately crashing right back into his trudging depression after a short while. Depressing :(

Thanks for sharing! :D
