"Arousing" Your Creativity

Featured Replies

Hey, guys. This is a great article I found with ways to enhance your creativity and get the proverbial juices flowing. It's meant for writers, but I definitely think composers, and all artists for that matter, can benefit from it.

Hope this helps anyone who's struggling to write. :D

Nice. I especially like the comment about not making your work as an artist seem too precious. "If the doctor and the garbage man can do their jobs every day, then those in a creative line of work can too." If your living depends on music you can't sit around and wait for inspiration. You simply have to get a job done to the best of your ability, learn from it, and move on.

Totally agree. Besides, a lot of the time you'll come back to whatever you wrote down (say a day or two later), and you'll be able to change it and make it better in a more inspired way.

This sort of goes along with #12: Write crap.

#200 is the best!!! If you want to read any, skip the first 199 first, then read number 200.

I love that one. I think I'll write crap tomorrow...and maybe the day after that.

LOL. I hope you don't always write crap ;)

i think i need more coffee

More coffee? To compose? not unless you get 4 hours of sleep all the time...

good find! I personally can attest to number 4: "Take a shower". It's amazing what ideas come to you when water is pouring down on you toothygrin.gif I also agree with 34 and 36:" Create a framework. Instead of trying to rely on pure inspiration, think within the box you create for yourself." "Don’t judge your ideas until you have plenty to judge." You are not always going to have divine inspiration; composition is something that requires effort and intelligence from the composer's own mind. Create plenty of ideas and choose which you like.
