Piano Improvisation 1

Now that Daniel (the Barkley one ) posted a video of a piano improvisation I recalled I too recorded an impro once, was to test my Casio Privia (about 4 years ago), I only recorded a MIDI, so today I just loaded Miroslav and added a more realistic piano sound. Random notes is quite clear yes, but with some "hand-finger position patterns" .... well, here it is.

This is still an impressive piano composition with no clear form. Part of being composer is taking improv and bending into composition. You master both parts, and created life. Now I am wondering what will be next on you menu. A John Cage piece or some thing better. A composer never sticks to one form or style but learns to mix the styles and then adapts and creates their own unique style and genre. The motives were a blend of atonal and tonal contours that didn't alarm these ears. I hope to hear more of your works later on! Nice job.

Yeah, I do a lot of different things, practically each new work has nothing to do with the last one...

I'm a self taught in everything, and I learned piano by improvising for hours and hours, wasn't until several years later when I studied my first work (a Beethoven sonata)...

I would like to be able to write piano stuff like this, but write it you know, not improvising, I don't tend to be very atonal, but I have a work, (only 1) where I did write this kind of piano stuff, was very difficult to put it into paper, and I'm not very happy with the notation, that work is for Soprano and small orchestra, later when I don't have so much ideas on my head, I may try to improve the piano parts (styled similar to this impro) specially the notation, take a look:

Looks very strange and confusing :veryunsure: I'd like to fix that because is not as confusing as it looks....(aaaaam, I do use some "incorrect" technique most of the time, like pressing 2 keys with the thumbs and so :toothygrin: , if you think like that, that pic won't look so difficult)

..... just I'll need the help of a super super composer/pianist to make a revision and the final score of that work.

I also used to improvise in Organ, every Sunday at the Mass ending, but I don't play organ now, I'm doing other stuff...

Ok, Danny:

Beautiful job and as I said in the shoutbox, you simply have to do more of these and transcribe them! Or better yet when you transcribe them, present the original instructions for each one offering pianists the option to either play your improv, do their own or develop an improv form yours. Now that would make for a wonderful concert!

Would sound better on a real piano, with more pedalling, but I can imagine what it would be like.

:hmmm: well I wouldn't agree very much with that, the non pianist composers usually force to much the current pro pianist skills, the ones who really have been making the next step on this were pianist, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, Prokofiev.... Messiaen ?

Oh and piano is primary for me.

@Daniel, I think I can record something with the same Privia but this time audio not midi, will still sound a bit unreal but some EQ may help.

very fine thing. would like to hear heavier fingering, but have no clue how that would be possible without introducing more rhythm, which would be a different kind of beast. a bird, here, not messiaenean (and not larry), but flapping.

Wow, this is a really cool work! Very airy and floaty, so to speak.. I really enjoyed your use of harmony in here... nothing at all wrong with it :)
