How Far the Winds Blow

An epic folk piece, that is intended to have a vibrant atmosphere.

How Far the Winds Blow

Since I don't have any formal musical training, I'd really appreciate any feedback.

This piece comes across as kind of starkly depressing to me ... I get the feeling of a burned down forest when I listen to this. I don't know why.

From what I can hear, the "voice-leading" seems good -- there aren't any random melodies or jumps going on anywhere, so musically, everything sounds clear and harmonically related to the key you're in. (Not that it's bad to use accidentals, of course  But there doesn't sound like there's any needless accidentals here.) But at the same time, I'm surprised to hear some slight dissonance in your music, dissonance that really fits instead of sounding like "mistakes." It adds a fullness to this piece that was sort of missing from the other piece "Coma". I'm also surprised since people new to music tend to stay away from more dissonant sounds, thinking that means that they're doing something wrong (this was the case with me, first starting out). So wow, that's honestly really impressive ^_^ I was right when I said you had a knack for music :)

Again, with a score, perhaps one can give suggestions about how to more fully explore the dissonance, or develop the piece in other ways to add to the facets of the story being presented here.

Ahhhh, the piano solo at the end here was a very nice touch. Even the fading away seemed to fit the depressing mood -- I'm not normally a fan of fade-outs without an actual ending chord, but I actually liked the choice here.

Thank you for sharing -- I enjoyed this even more than the other one :D
