May 16, 201114 yr This flute sonata was written for a flautist and colleague of mine. This work is an experiment of sorts for me: I've been pushing my envelop and playing with rhythmic ideas heavily in this work.I tried to make the first movement very idiomatic for the instrument; the movement captures the flute's strengths and plays with an adaptive piano. A simple exploitation of the 3/4-6/8 relationship is heavily explored, and moving ideas off of the beat to emphasize the high, almost bird like playfulness of the movement. The second, Espagnol (french for Flute Sonata [mp3=prestidigilicious][/mp3]
May 16, 201114 yr Hey! This is a REALLY great piece here. I enjoyed your use of the flute, plus all those harmonies! Good job here! Mvt. 1: I did like this quite a bit. My only comment would be that the sequential stuff didn't work out as well as I thought it would. But still overall, it had a good structure. Just a little more development to perfect it. Mvt. 2: This is a nice movement too! I think the title and all works with the music. I think that the sequential stuff works much better here. The aug. 2nds in places made you kinda go "hmm, what was that?" but in a good way, for me at least. It sounds a bit stereo-typical, but overall I enjoyed it. Mvt. 3: Nice work here! It sounds sorta baroque-like, then not, then yes, no, just switching a lot. I think it works. A nice light, humorous movement to counter-balance the last one. Nice job. (though it has QUITE a few time sig. changes, which makes it a bit less like a minuet) Mvt. 4: Everyone together now! Great job in this one. This is my absolute favorite movement. I love the harmonies, the melodies.. just really almost nothing wrong. What is wrong? The minor seconds section: IT NEEDS TO BE LONGER! I think it needs an extra few seconds to get in. It's got such good placing, but just needs a bit more. Okay, a final comment: 2nds, 4ths, 5ths, octaves... that's a sure recipe for some good stuff! :) Thanks for posting! Heckel
