August 24, 200619 yr lol, and I was all excited about a jazz piece written by a user named 'RM Clarinet" too... :)
May 1, 200718 yr alrighty. theres a few things you need to do. 1. On the solo section put down the chords the soloist is soloing over. 2. Is this supposed to be swung? I don't really understand it to be honest. I don't hear a melody, so if you'll tell me where it is that'd be nice. Was this just done by ear, or do you know much jazz theory?
May 1, 200718 yr Author there is many melodies, that are through out the instrumentation. There is no one particular melody.
May 1, 200718 yr there is many melodies, that are through out the instrumentation. There is no one particular melody. And I think that's the main issue with this: too many melodies. No sense of direction, no energy. You've patchworked a few decent melodies together into something with no cohesion. Is there a form? Chord progression? There's some good stuff in there - but it's too cluttered with superfluous fluff. Strong melody or rhythm. One or both of these could salvage the piece. Annon asked about jazz harmony. I'd be more worried about understanding of jazz language in general - concentrate more on developing the feel of a piece, rather than hip counterpoint or harmony. Check out some good jazz ... LISTEN, LISTEN....listen. ... listen.
May 1, 200718 yr Jazz Theory,... No. Im not into jazz...so maybe I will read som books. Read a book...or dig this website and save your money to buy some CDs.

May 1, 200718 yr yea, i've been there before an i am by NO MEANS a jazz expert, but i really don't think you can have a 'jazz sound' with triads/classicalish chord progressions.
May 4, 200718 yr I really don't think you can have a 'jazz sound' with triads/classicalish chord progressions. Nah...it's all about feel ... Dig this: . All they've done is change the rhythms and feel (notes are apparently as Bach wrote it...) ... Perhaps not the hippest jazz of all time, but goes to show that the notes are secondary to feel and style.
May 24, 200718 yr Pretty neat stuff there, I don't have any background in Jazz but sounds a bit random, is that what it suppose to be sound like?
