How to program percussion drums?

Featured Replies

Hello Young Composers!

I recently purchased some  percussion libraries which I think is great for RPG and anything adventure (no hard epic scenes)... I am figuring how you go about programming percussion drums. I can program acoustic drums (kicks, snare, hihats etc) but I am aweful at percussion, especially ethnic percussion. Are there any tutorials or information you guys can point me to? I'd greatly appreciate it!

Try not to use them for grooves, but for emphasis. A lot of that kind of percussion is great for adding punch and impact to different parts of a piece.

No tutorials, but given a market flooded with bombastic pounding drums, it's a cliche you'd do best to avoid. Less is more. The percussion should be integral to the music, not an afterthought or attention getter. Why not post your work here so we can hear it?
