Piano piece

Featured Replies

It will be first part of my piano concerto. I hope so :)
There is only piano on the recording. I didn't write ochestral part yet.
Looking forward to your comments.

Hi Freewayer,

This is a very confident and stirring piece of music, I like it a lot.

However, I'm hearing some very heavy Rachmaninov influences, and at times it felt like you had dressed bits of the Rach ii and iii's bones, in different flesh if that makes sense.  You obviously have talent, both in performance and creation so maybe it wouldn't be too hard to have a really good look at what you've written, and see if you can hear the passages that are most Rachmaninovesque, and see if you feel they should be changed a little.  Without seeing the score, it's hard to put a finer point on it, but I do really like what you've done and I will look forward to seeing any more developments.

Another quick thought, if, when you come to write the orchestration, you have a good look at the Rach ii and iii, and try to do something quite dissimilar, I think that would go a long way toward changing the feel of the piece.

I hope you don't mind my comments, these are just my opinions and don't really count for much, but as I said, you obviously have talent, and I would just want to try and steer you away from rewriting a masterpiece that already exists.

Best regards

Mark

This seems like a weirdly embellished and minor version of the Beethoven Emperor Concerto to me, with some definite Rachmaninov. ;)
It's very inventive and rhythmically and harmonically intense (especially with chromatics).
I would open singular chords a little bit. Lot of typical sevenths and triads, and this has the potential to be a lot more. I would also encourage some more obvious thematic material. Development's great, but I don't think you want it to sound through-composed. Maybe leave some room for the orchestration. It's very heavy here.
Mark's comments are also good, but there's nothing wrong with using Rach in a new way.
Just don't be afraid to really move this forward!

Hi Freewayer,

I just had a second listen and the piece seems different to the first time I listened, have you edited it or is it just me lol?  I was sure I remembered it differently, it seems lighter somehow now.  I hope you didn't change it based on what I said, I didn't mean to suggest that you should remove anything, or imply that using Rach or indeed Beethoven as your inspirations was a bad thing.  You will get some fantastic advice here from lots of people, but in the end, the decisions should always be yours.

The fact that I do remember it though does mean that it made an impression on me in the first place which has to be a good thing.  Still looking forward to the next instalment.

Thank you for your opinions!
Of course I'll leave some room for the orchestration. I have already 3 minutes with the orchestra.

No, I didn't edit anything. :)

I'm sory if I made some mistakes, I don't speak English very well.
