San Martino del Carso - A little melodrama

Recommended Posts

I return after a long hiatus caused by study (and the recent pc destruction :D )

I tried to write a short melodrama for piano and narrator on the famous poetry by Giuseppe Ungaretti (you can find text and translation in the description of the video) treating the narrator in the classic way, with a rhythmically free part using only some strong syllables as a matching point between piano and voice (as opposed to, for example, Rzewski's rhythmical treating of the speaking pianist). I consider this a small-scale experiment: I'll try to arrange in this way Keats' Ode on a grecian urn.

I don't know if this is the right section to post it: sorry if I'm mistaken!

Unbelievable. I am speechless...

To be honest, I haven't heard anything that is more beautiful than this in months!
To be honest, I wanted to cry, because the music allowed me to do it. Unfortunately, I didn't the first time.
The second time I listened to it, the tears came. The poem, the music, the atmosphere, the narrator. This combination.

I cannot express my gratitude for sharing this art.
The only thing I can say is: mille grazie per questo momento magico.

I would be nice to have a translation. I understand it more or less ...

Of these houses
nothing remains
but the rubble
of a ruined wall

Of the many
who were so close to me
nothing remains
not even that

But in my heart
not one cross is missing

This ravaged village
is my heart
