Gah school is so hectic at the minute that I don't know if I'll be able to get anything finished.

I'll probably just end up writing a short SATB Kyrie or Credo.. good as a partwriting exercise anyway.

Heh. I've been writing variations for soprano and piano. Trying to make it as accessible and banal, yet somewhat accomplished, as possible. It extracts melodies from a very skeletal motivic opening. I hate the piece so far, but I like to think of it as fairly successfull... Progress is halted at the moment.

Well yes, it is, but more imporantly, I see the skill in Dante's texts and consider them to merely be some of the most imaginative fiction ever written in the history of civilization. I doubt the 'vision' he had was even authentic. But he was a genius, and none of us is any the wiser whether or not he did, in fact, have a vision.

His journey through the depths of Hell is more of a physical manifestation of the depths of the inner self, and he invites the reader to take this journey of self-examination along with him, to overcome that which blocks our path.

Does anyone have a problem with Wednesday, October 18th for the deadline? Once this is all confirmed I will contact the judges on how this should go down.

I would love to join, Composing a piece with text is somthing i have dabbled little in. A positive submmision date would be appriciated so i know when my time limit for composing is. oh, we can write our own text right ? also if i use notepad then the file will be mus. and the judges will be able to read the text as well as listen to the music right. If I'm wrong with any of this please inform me.

I think October 18th is a fine date, if not the 11th. I was under the impression that the choral piece, while with no particularily specific guidelines, would only need to be a 3-8 minute piece, i.e. one movement, so as not to take up much of one person's time.

And btw, is it a requirement that a person provide a MIDI? Because if it isn't, that would be :) VERY :w00t: nice for some of us less fortunate people that have Dial-Up...:(
