Layering effect is nice and progresses well over time (though a more stable bassline might have helped). I'm curious about your little G to E major little chordal skip figure. What are you functionally trying to achieve with that?

I couldn't really tell you. Right now I'm kind of playing catch up with my conscious mind to my unconscious musical processes. This site is helping a lot.

I can say that I was going for a feeling of discovery. (this would be one of the examples of 'parallel harmony' I was talking about)

Another nice one with interesting harmonic progressions. It never crossed my mind to ask why about the harmony. As you've presented the piece for review I assumed you were fairly satisfied with it as it stands. To me, functionally it's music. That's all I needed to know!  It's good to obey your inner ear (at first, anyway).

However, I found the ending too abrupt. It's worth building up a little. I was expecting another round of the harmony a little louder or more intense and perhaps elongation of the final chord(s). That would seem to add nobility to it. It would only add maybe 10 seconds, perhaps less. I liked the instrumentation.

I agree. I think that's a problem I'm facing right now, I don't quite have the knowledge of music theory to fully express my musical ideas.

You're doing pretty well. I found the way you "swapped" the E minor chord in one phrase with E major in the next then got back via a G chord, attractive; intriguing. (Assuming my ear isn't deceiving me about the key!)

I reckon if you ended on the E major chord and hold it, ramping down the string figures or something it would be a very optimistic ending.

Good luck.
