Summer Evening for Violin Piano Duet

Featured Replies

I finished my Summer Evening piece for Violin Piano Duet. I wrote it in a rondo form of ABACA Coda, similar to the second movement of the Pathetique Sonata. I wrote it in D major, partly because I thought D major would fit better with the concept of the piece and partly because I wrote it for a Violin Piano Duet and D major is one of those keys that isn't too boring, but at the same time, is easy for both the pianist and the violinist. I have a lot of different textures going on in the piece from Solo to Melody over Accompaniment to Contrapuntal. I even included a chorale like section in Bb major. This is how my Rondo structure turned out as far as keys:

  • A - Beginning section in D major
  • B - More momentum as it goes into B minor and then through a Circle of Fifths like modulation back to D major.
  • A' - Back in D major again, but the violin takes the melody that the piano was playing before and the piano plays a countermelody against it
  • C1 - Sudden forte jolt brings us to the key of G minor
  • C2 - Stormy C minor brings more momentum to the D minor that comes afterwards and quickly modulates to Bb major
  • C3 - Relaxing, Bach-like Chorale in Bb that seamlessly modulates to D major for the last A section
  • A'' - Piano now has it's initial melody back, but the violin plays a countermelody in a higher register
  • Coda - Piano and Violin harmonizing each other for half of it, contrapuntal for the other half

What do you think of my piece?

Really nice melodies and impressive writing for 2 instruments.

Yes i like it, some interesting chords there. Have a good day 🙂
