September 1, 20205 yr My first march. Its much harder to compose than a minuet, its going to take a bit of practice. Any tips would be welcome.

I found two Marches in Mozart's notenbuch which I'll look at in detail to get a better feel for the early classical marches. I think duple metre, binary form, 110 - 120 bpm, a forward momentum throughout and cheerful tone.
September 1, 20205 yr I don't know any marchs by Mozart except Rondo alla turca and the "intro" of The Abduction from the Serraillo, which ir orchestral and also "turco". But this style is different. I guess the music tries to reflect the solemn rhythm in general. Your piece has some of those elements (with the staccato notes) but sounds joyful, too. Edited September 1, 20205 yr by Luis Hernández
