Farewell

Featured Replies

This piece was written to cope with the passing of a dear friend struck with covid, a young person whose loss will linger with her family and friends forever. There was a hope she might survive but alas, didn't. It was played (in the form posted here) at her funeral.

Under ordinary circumstances it might seem over sentimental - and probably is - not like my usual compositions at all. But it had to be as it is.

I posted it here because it would probably need a conductor to manage the tempo changes.

For an orchestra of muted strings (aside from a brief solo)

It is very beautiful, emotive. I am so sorry for that loss. I suffered from COVID seriously, too, but could survive.

sorry for your loss. I have never heard of a piece of romantic style from you before. I like your use of orchestration. very emotional.

Thank you very much for the kind comments. They're much appreciated.

Alas, too many have suffered this virus but condolences received with gratitude. Perhaps it took an event like this to inspire attention to tonality, a region I rarely venture into now.

All the best.

You knew your audience.

This covid garbage will dissipate eventually... but until it does, it'll bring out a side in all of us with our music that we may not usually reach for, yet we can easily relate with no matter the style or genre. I think you did a marvelous job at that and as an ode to your friend.
