A Vibrant Morning -- My first composition

Featured Replies

I signed up here during mid November last year. I wasn't really into composing back then but now I am. Recently I got Finale and scored my first song.

This song's called "A Vibrant Morning". I called it that because I wanted to write a piece which is cheery, happy and makes me feel "vibrant", especially in the mornings, when I feel sleeeeepy.:P

As you know, this is my very first composition, and the scores of this song is simple, the melody doesn't change too much(hopefully it's not boring), and so on. It took me a while to compose this. Also, I would like to receive some comments on this piece to make my later pieces better.

And btw, English's not my first language, and I don't speak it well, so bare with me if I make any silly English grammar/vocab mistakes.

PS: I don't really like the midi file's sound too much, so here's the linkie for the mp3;)

EDIT: Posted a new link for the mp3, cos the last one went wrong.

I can't say that I'm anything of an instructer on piano compositions (I've only composed one myself) so I doubt my comments will help you with your next piece, but, they may encourage you. I Thought the piece was nice and flowing, maybe a little repetative but i have that same problem with most of my compositions and most of the repeats were variations of the main theme so it's all good. I look forward to hearing your next composition, I'm a fan of Rachmaninoff myself so if there was anything I would suggest it would be more chords and (Unlike a cheery and happy piece) a little bit more minor, but you're the composer and for your first composition I personaly think it was great.

Thanks. I know it's a variation of the main theme, and I tried to vary it...

It's my first piece, at least I don't get flamed.. XD

Nigel, that was pretty good. Remember, don't use repeats unless you really hear it that way. If you are going to repeat a section, write it all out again on your comp and see if you change anything. My guess is you will. Also, check out this place for the summer.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks. I'll try to stay away from repeats from now on.

Do Not! Repeats are a very useful way to define the theme of the piece. If you like it when a determined part is repeated, repeat it.

It's my first piece

Really? Wow, I'm impressed. Nice piece, I love the theme, it is so peaceful, yet upbeat. Also, there is nothing wrong with repeats, especially since I think you used them incredibly well. Anyway, I am dead tired right now, so I will leave it at that, just wanted to let you know I enjoyed listening and keep it up.
