Souds of the Desert

Featured Replies

Hi,

This is a piece I wrote inspired by desert imagery and it features a combination of tradtionall and symphonic instruments. Just thought I'd drop this one here. Any feedback and/or comments are appreciated!

EDIT: The score for the piece is in the down in the "reply" section of the forum post

Great use of the phrygian dominant mode to create that deserty feel!  I think you did a great job developing your ideas and exploring various different key centers along the way.  The orchestration is great as well although I wish you included a score 😕.  Those bongos or conga drums or whatever they are sound great in this context also!  I found it weird that your phrase lengths are so odd once the music gets started but yet you manage to make it work (love the use of solo horn in this context and for some countermelodies).  Later you do let those phrases breathe more it seems.  The harp is also a great enhancement to the arabic character of this piece.  Great job and thanks for sharing!

Thanks for taking your time to listen and sharing your thoughts! After your comment I realized that some people might want to look at the score, so I'll attach it here:
