October 8, 20214 yr tried to use a lot of fourths since I mainly think in thirds. Idk if that makes sense.
October 8, 20214 yr I love this piece. It's got a great and multi-faceted introduction part of which you bring back near the end with the quick woodwind gestures in the background. It's very bright and happy and I know you were worried about sounding like a copy of John Williams (he does have a particular way of using 4ths and 5ths that can be cliche) but I don't hear that - it sounds very unique and individual. Great job!

October 11, 20214 yr As an exercise that really is excellent. It's a fanfare in its own right. Came over as triumphal. Very engaging harmony. gives the impression of pushing forward. Bright and airy. Great.

October 11, 20214 yr I like it! I would say my only gripe is that the harmony when the choir comes in might be a bit too loud in dynamics, but I like it all the same. This is Hollywood Orchestra, right?

This is Hollywood Orchestra, right? yes I think so too, I really wanted that harmonic overlay to shine, probably a bit too high in modulation on the choir and inexperienced orchestration. Thank you! Yes it is good ear. I like Hollywood orchestra a lot

October 23, 20214 yr Hey! I really like this piece. Love the harmonies all over, and the staccato rhythm of the first bars. And it's a good exercise to kill your darlings once in a while! I should do exercises like this myself On 10/8/2021 at 10:02 AM, Left Unexplained said: tried to use a lot of fourths since I mainly think in thirds. Idk if that makes sense. November 13, 20214 yr @Left UnexplainedOh definitely. I also need to work on putting in more thirds in my own works, since I mostly use sixths.

It's an expression used in anything creative, like being a writer, composer, whatever. There are certain characters, ideas, or phrases we love to use in the creative material ever so often, it's also comfortable. But sometimes it's better to "Kill your darlings" in order to explore something new. Which is what you talked about
November 16, 20214 yr Hello, newbie here! Sorry for lack of suggestions, but love the harmonies you have produced, very exciting. Regards, Zeb
