Entry B - "Caprice for Solo Violin No.1" by @luderart

This is my first Caprice for Solo violin. It is my submission to the "From Bits to Bangers" Young Composers music competition. I chose the first of the five 8-bit video game music tracks available to be chosen from, the "Dragon's Lair". The beginning of my piece starts off from my perception of the starting part of the track. Then I proceed to build on it what becomes my caprice. Later that initial part returns in various different forms.

Entry E - "Fantasy on a Theme from Castlevania 2" by @bkho

"Castlevania 2 was one of my favorite games from the Nintendo era and in particular, I always found the town theme featured here particularly catchy with the interesting rhythms within a simple looping harmonic progression.

Scored for string orchestra, my piece opens with a slow introduction, starting with a reharmonization of the opening motive followed by an almost canonic treatment of the descending chromatic motive before moving on to a straightforward presentation of the entire theme.  This is then followed by a treatment of the thematic material in the relative major key before recapitulating back to the original theme and ending on a quiet pizzicato."

Entry H - "Adventure" by @Ferrum

Based on track 2 - Treasure Master World 2 - "The Moon"

Adventure. is a large and energetic orchestral piece that takes you through the eye of passionate searchers, who wander deep in a forest in search of something that they believe are essential to their community. Through many obstacles and difficult paths, these passionate searchers scramble and traverse the extreme conditions of the woods. In the end, their work pay off as what they had found is beyond what they had expected.

Entry I - "Dungeon Variations" by @AlexeySavelyev

Based on track 1 - "Dragon's Lair"

So I took Dragon's Lair track here. This is free variational form with developement in different fields. I went from studying the soundtrack and noticing it's medieval feel, so I went for this too at first with my work and it goes sort of from just typical folk Dorian scale to a sort of modern polytonic harmony in the end. This track played at a dungeon level, so I wanted to represent that too, going with some nocturnal feeling, developing into some conflict in the end which resolves and goes back to Dorian scale in the end, referencing the 'peaceful' beginning.

This is pretty rad stuff. I really enjoyed it. Some sections feel like cliche film score stuff, but there were some really woldly interesting rhythmic grooves going on. First half was extremely solid, and then the second half was a bit more generic (imo). I loved the listen, though.

Some of these things would be really hard if done by a real orchestra, at least with how you have some things engraved and notated.

Since I'm new here, I was thinking whether to post a reply or not. Luckily, someone threw up a comment that I agree with haha.

When I listened to the H entry, although some of the textures sounded a bit odd and unbalanced to me, I also realized that there were some good ideas and intentions, especially in some rhythm sections. However, as already said, several things that are written in the score will be really difficult, unreadable or simply impossible to play for an orchestra D: (at least humanly).

You should take this as a good attempt and start reviewing pieces in this forum too! We are welcome more replies to our members' works here and don't be shy!
