You Know It’s True

Another tune I made with the Sonar 8.5 piano roll and some older samples. I’m kinda behind the times.

I don’t know how the levels come across on anything other than my TV speakers and my flat response studio headphones so if anyone can comment on the EQ and or anything else it would be much appreciated.

This is very enjoyable music! I am just afraid the flute is quite overshadowed throughout the music especially after the entrance of the electric guitar. The electric guitar itself is quite nice in around 1:50 as it's very sharp, and I want this to linger for a little more time! Also I just want the background strings to feature a little bit more as well! I love your harmony in this with all those flat-submediant and mediant keys!

Thank you for your helpful and kind feedback. I'm a little embarrassed to admit I don't have a clue what flat-submediant and mediant keys are.

I know what harmony is though! I just play by ear.

I can't read music. It's all I can do to memorize the letter notes on a musical staff to say nothing about trying to make sense of notation, time signatures and whatnot.

I've tried learning to read music but just get frustrated and bored. Oh well.

I grew up on a steady diet of The Beatles... can you tell? hehehe

You don't have to be embarrassed at all! I am just used to using theoretic terms! I will describe Bb major the main key, the tonic key here with the Bb as "Do". That Gb chord, e.g. in 0:54 will be the "flat-submediant" chord since Gb is the flat-La note of Bb. Similarly the change of key to Db major in 2:13 is very fascinating. Db is the flat-Mi note of Bb so I call Db major the flat mediant key!

Of course it will be great to know those theoretical stuffs if you want to compose those stuffs in a more systematic way but that's not compulsory. After all many of the world music are great music without having the western musical theory at all! And here I enjoy your music very much and that's the most crucial thing!

Haha I really can't tell since I never listen to The Beatles and never like them at all! Their music is amazing but it is just not my taste right now!
