Prelude for two pianos.pdf

Hi @Evgeni,

I really enjoy this one as this is real cool music. For me I don't feel there's wrong in it!

What amazes me most is how you tell your story in post tonal style since this is always hard for me. You are having an agitated first section full of clusters, then a very nice change in b.16 with softer dynamics and thinner texture. I really love the way you pave your way back to the more agitated section with shorter and shorter note values coming: crotchet in b.20 re-introduced and having more and more of them, then you do the same thing with quaver in b,24. Very logical, crafty and reasonable there!

This piece is a great narrative. Thx for sharing it!

I like this piece for two things: 1) for the postonal language which I find beautiful and effective, 2) for the use of two pianos.

I myself have done things for two pianos, but not in this kind of language.

In your work they are very well combined because they are heard as a whole without disturbing each other.

I don't know what program you have used but the notation of the clusters has always been not very easy. This way is correct but not the most visual. At least if they are clusters comprising all the notes of an interval.

Thanks, Henry. I posted this piece on Reddit and was surprised by the reaction or rather the complete lack of it. Well, let's see what my teacher has to say today.

Thank you, Luis. I use Dorico, and I'm sure there is a better way to present the clusters. I have to think about it.

It's normal to have complete lack of reactions after you post a piece, don't get too discouraged for that. Your teacher's opinion for sure weigh more than normal audience like us and you are lucky to have her/him!

I think what makes this piece very interesting musically despite the use of harmony which could be considered coarse and unpalatable is the addition of humanizing factors such as dynamics and realistic articulations making it seem like a real human being is playing.  And by dynamics I mean that (at least it seem to me) you also balance the most important tones in a chord above those which are less important giving the piece a melodic/harmonic hierarchy or importance.  This is a very audible enhancement that makes this kind of music 1000x more enjoyable and musical.  Great job and thanks for sharing!

Thank you! By the way, there is a new version of the prelude, a better one IMO.
